  • - NAMI Indiana (National Alliance on Mental Illness)
  • Indianapolis, IN, USA
  • Full Time

The National Alliance on Mental Illness Indiana (NAMI Indiana) seeks a strong, farsighted leader, with a passion for NAMI's mission, to serve as its Executive Director (ED). The ED will act as the organization's chief executive, fundraiser, and external advocate, who will oversee the organization's growth in 2017 and beyond.

In addition to serving as the organization's key external voice, the ED will manage the development and implementation of NAMI Indiana's next strategic plan, working with the Board of Directors to set goals and then implementing a work plan and balanced budget to achieve them. Reporting to the Board, the ED will manage the NAMI Indiana team and a portfolio of volunteers.

The State Organization ED plays a critical role within the national NAMI movement. S(he) serves not only as the chief driver of systems-change advocacy and local program implementation at state and local levels, but also as the guardian of the organization's place in a three-tiered, health-focused, national organization.

S(he) takes ownership of applicable opportunities for mental health and relevant cross-system collaboration across state executive agencies, state-level advocacy organizations and their counterparts in local Indiana communities. As an important grantee/contractor for the State of Indiana for increasing the involvement of family members and those living with serious mental illnesses in government policy and program implementation, NAMI Indiana must be active in bringing those with lived experience into a wide range of projects.

S(he) educates partners about relevant policy issues, creates proposals for new projects, and identifies and communicates gaps in current systems. At each stage, the ED seeks buy-in and compromise to move solutions forward that remain aligned with NAMI positions and values. This is also a lobbying position, and communication about drafting or voting for specific legislation can/should be moved from this role. The ED position is funded with a diverse combination of all sources of revenue flowing into the organization.

Required: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and writing skills. Demonstrated knowledge of the mental health system. Demonstrated experience in fundraising.
