Hancock County Senior Services is a community-based not-for-profit agency serving the diverse needs of elderly and disabled residents in Hancock County, Indiana. Through coordinated programs and services, staff and volunteers help promote and sustain independent and safe living for our aging population. We also provide transportation for the public regardless of your age or physical ability.

The Executive Director is responsible and accountable to the Board of Directors for the effective and efficient financial, operational, and administrative management of HCSS. The Executive Director provides overall leadership for the organization in accordance with the policies, objectives, and directions of the Board of Directors, to promote the overall vision, direction, stability, and growth of the organization.

Position Duties

General Leadership and Administration
* Lead and direct the implementation of the mission and strategic plan; identifying specific long and short range plans of development
* Maintain sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with all stakeholders
* Ensure that the organization is in compliance with all grant and contract performance requirements
* Review, update and present policies and procedures to Board according to the document's required time schedule
* Direct the daily office and physical plant management operations

Financial Performance and Viability
* Direct fiscal control, accountability and budget reporting utilizing industry standards and best practices
* Manage the creation and tracking of the annual budget with final approval from the Board of Directors
* Research and apply for grants to strengthen agency sustainability
* Approve all operational and building expenditures within the procurement guidelines

Donor Development and Community Relations
* Identify, establish, and cultivate current and prospective donors
* Present a positive and consistent perception of HCSS in the community to ensure visibility of the organization, its mission, programs, and services
* Broaden the use of technology in all aspects of communication

Human Resources and Board Development
* Reports directly to the Board of Directors keeping them informed of issues, challenges and needs.
* Maintain appropriate relations with the Board, various committees, staff, volunteers and other community organizations
* Responsible for the hiring and retaining of qualified and competent staff
* Assist with the recruitment of community members to serve on the HCSS Board of Directors and committees
* Assist in providing new Board member orientation
* Encourage staff, Board, and volunteer development and education

Position Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree and prefer experience with nonprofit or social service organizations
* Supervisory experience with personnel including hiring and evaluating staff performance
* Knowledge of fundraising, grant writing, and nonprofit management
* Excellent communication skills
* Solid, hands-on budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
* Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
* Excellent leadership, management, and interpersonal skills
* Ability to motivate external stakeholders, and all levels of staff, Board members and volunteers
* Capability of working effectively with public (local, state, and federal) agencies and officials
* Highest levels of personal and professional integrity and ethics
