Indiana Landmarks is a nonprofit organization dedicated to defending architecturally unique, historically significant, and communally cherished properties. We rescue them, we rehabilitate them, and we give them new purpose -- saving our state's shared heritage and bringing new life to communities.  Founded in 1960, the organization has grown to include eleven sites statewide, with headquarters located in a beautifully restored former church in the historic Old Northside neighborhood near downtown Indianapolis.  

Responsibilities

The Accounting Assistant is a critical member of the accounting team.  Job responsibilities include:

  • Process vendor invoices for payment, including resolution of billing discrepancies.  Weekly volume is approximately 50 to 75 invoices.
  • Process payroll for 45 employees.
  • Enroll employees in the benefits program and support administration of employee benefits.
  • Assist in processing of daily cash receipts.

  • Strong computer skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience with Paylocity payroll system and Blackbaud Financial Edge accounting system is beneficial.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service.
  • Ability to think logically in order to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make sound business decisions.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills, with the ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.

Education and/or experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three-five years' experience with payroll accounting and accounts payable function.
  • Benefits administration experience.
