Organization Overview 

Butler University's Department of Arts Administration is one of the first comprehensive undergraduate arts administration programs in the country. The department awards a Bachelor of Science degree in Dance Arts Administration, and Bachelor of Science degrees in Arts Administration with concentrations in either music, theatre, or general/multi-arts; there are currently 90 majors. This JCA program is fully integrated into the University's liberal arts curriculum and arts administration students are required to be personally involved in multiple art forms. The undergraduate arts administration program focuses on preparing students for careers working with a wide variety of artists and nonprofit arts organizations.  Students are given opportunities to learn and develop skills through experiential learning, internships, and special projects with small and large arts organizations.

The Art + Design Program is the newest component of the Jordan College of the Arts. Its mission is to educate artists to acquire skills of the designer, and designers to attain the aesthetic eye of the artist, achieved through an innovative, hybrid curriculum that emphasizes sustainable, traditional, and digital materials

The Jordan College of the Arts at Butler University includes undergraduate programs in arts administration, art + design, dance, music, and theatre; a graduate program in music; and the Butler Community Arts School, an arts education program. The respective departments are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, Dance, and Theatre. 

Position Duties

·         Coordinating administrative aspects of the arts administration department and the Art+Design program

·         Maintaining student & departmental records

·         Organizing departmental enrollment logistics

·         Monitoring and managing departmental budgets

·         Assisting admission staff, faculty and prospective students with the recruitment process

·         Maintaining website and social media vehicles for Arts Administration and Art + Design information

·         Serving as a resource and ongoing support for students within the department

·         Assisting faculty and students with Moodle

·         Ensuring appropriate supplies and materials

·         Developing and implementing database for alumni contacts

·         Attending and participating in departmental, college, and university meetings

·         Assisting with special events

·         Assisting with special projects as assigned

·         Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred, high school diploma required

• At least 5 years professional experience in business environment

• Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office; familiarity with PeopleSoft and/or Moodle preferred

• Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate ideas and recommendations both orally and in writing

• Ability to thrive in situations requiring high degrees of collaboration, timeliness, and deadlines

• Affinity for arts & culture

• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and technology skills

• Experience working in an institution of higher education preferred

Full-time, 9 months per year (mid-August through mid-May)
