The Director of Development will manage and oversee multiple functions of the development operations including an annual integrated fundraising campaign, Database management, donor communications, resource development, grant development and events coordination.  Works with the CEO and other staff leadership to develop and coordinate organizational funding priorities.  Responsible for overseeing advancement internal and external reporting functions associated with individual giving (annual fund), with a focus on Major Gift development, corporate relations, and grant development.  Assists with the development and management of an integrated fund-raising plan to increase the community's financial support of the organization's capital, endowment and program goals and helps plan and execute communications strategies to ensure success.  Engages in development departmental and organizational strategy setting as well as budgeting.  The position requires the ability to develop and implement a strategic development plan aligned with the organizational vision strategic plan.
 
Priorities
The full time salaried position reports directly to the President of Joy's House at our Broad Ripple location (2028 E. Broad Ripple Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46220).   While we have a budget established for the position, salary is commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions
To do the job satisfactorily, the employee must fulfill all the following essential job functions associated with this position:
• Design and leadership for individual donor focused Development Plan
• Leadership and management of Development Staff
• Leadership for overall Development program and efforts, including but not limited to, database management process, major gift program, annual fund, and grant development
• Work with Joy's House leadership team to assist in the strategic direction of the development operations and plan
• Perform other duties as assigned

Position Responsibilities
The following are general position responsibilities associated with this position:

Management of Development Staff:
• Responsible for working with the Development Coordinator setting the strategic direction and implementation of all Foundation and Corporate development strategies; and, overseeing the daily operations of said strategies and implementation as outlined in the Development Coordinator's position description.
• Responsible for working with an Events Coordinator in setting the strategic direction and implementation of all event based development strategies; and, overseeing the daily operations of said strategies and implementation.

Major Gifts/Planned Gifts:
• Develop and implement a major gifts and planned gifts programs, including an action plan to advance prospect identification, research, cultivation and solicitation and stewardship
• Meet with representatives of funding sources and prospective & existing donors to develop funding relationship
• Must work with donor-base in tracking prospective & existing donor relations
• Responsible for developing and managing a personal portfolio of major donors, as outlined in the Major Donor Advancement Plan
• Engages in regular stewardship of annual fund donors
• Support and accompany Joy's House staff, Board members and volunteers on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship calls
• Develop and implement a program for in honor of/in memory of gifts – as a part of the Development Plan

Corporate Gifts/Sponsorships:
• In coordination with the Development Coordinator, develop and implement overall organizational corporate giving strategy, including sponsorships,
operating support, scholarships, cause-related marketing, and other ways of corporate giving
• In coordination with an Events Coordinator, develop and manage all aspects of securing sponsorships for key Joy's House events, particularly the annual Gala, Joy of the Journey Breakfast and A Day Away

Board Development:
• Act as Staff Liaison for the Development Committee
• Develop and provide ongoing Board and staff training in fundraising at Annual Retreat and as requested

Management of Development Functions:
• Work closely with President to develop and implement an annual organization development plan and budget
• Mentor, coach and support Joy's House Board members, key volunteers, and staff in regard to
fundraising
• Handle management and implementation of grant requests, applications, and evaluations
• And all other duties as assigned

Supervisory:
• Coach and assess performance of the development team

Qualifications:
• Must have a passion for our mission, vision, and values
• Five or more years demonstrable experience in creating, conducting, and managing fundraising, major gift development, stewardship, cultivation and communications strategies, grant research and composition and interacting with high-level boards.
• Proven experience managing an advancement team with a focus on Major Gifts, annual fund giving, corporate giving, and grant development.
• Proven track-record in individual cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and implementation.
• Exceptional communication skills, including written/email and spoken/phone
• Resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
• Highly organized and self-motivated to remain focused on various tasks at once
• Experience with a capital campaign required
• Supervisory experience strongly preferred
• Successful track record of meeting deadlines, project management and creative problem solving
• Prioritizes conflicting needs; handles all matters expeditiously, proactively, and follows-through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required
• Experience with eTapestry a plus

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift min. 50 lbs. independently
