The Vice President of Development is responsible for designing and managing a wide range of fundraising activities to secure the greatest possible philanthropic support for both PPINK and PPAINK.  This position will provide leadership, direction, and management of the development team. The Vice President of Development will be expected to design, implement and manage a comprehensive development plan to achieve set short and long term philanthropic goals.  This position will assist the President & CEO with a donor portfolio, maintain and build relationships with donors and the Board of Directors with focus on major gifts as well as maintain a major gifts portfolio of their own.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Supervise, guide and motivate a high-performing team to achieve both long and short term fundraising goals in collaboration with the Development Department and the President/CEO.  Manages development staff, including hiring, training, and evaluating performance.
• Responsible for a personal portfolio of current and prospective major donors and planned gifts to meet campaign milestones.  Maintains a personal major gifts portfolio for gifts of $25,000 and above.
• Assigns and supports development staff in executing cultivation plans for donors, lapsed donors, and prospects.
• Responsible for ensuring the consistent and effective use of Raiser's Edge by relevant staff, including updating database with accurate coding and detailed notes regarding current and prospective donors, to serve as the electronic repository of institutional history of donor communications.
• Implements and enhances recognition/communications strategies that ensures all major and planned giving donors receive appropriate, consistent recognition, communication and reports.
• Utilizes research tools to identify top current donors for major gift upgrades and top prospective major donors.
• Participates in the planning, preparation and execution of major giving cultivation and recognition events.
• Enlists the involvement of members of the organization's staff, the President/CEO, the Board of Directors, and others as necessary to successfully steward and cultivate major donors. Works closely with the Board of Directors and other volunteers to ensure their effective and meaningful engagement with fundraising.
• Represents the organization to the local and regional business/civic community.  Maintain a working relationship with relevant regional associations.
• Promotes a collegial and mutually respectful atmosphere within the development department and the organization.
• Participates in ongoing professional development and community involvement for the benefit of the organization.
• Works with Communications/Marketing Department to develop concepts and messages, write solicitation proposals for individual prospects and donors; oversee preparation of solicitation planning materials for meetings; prepare pledge agreements;
• Evaluates fundraising efforts and activities to determine effectiveness. Employs quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods.  Analyzes evaluation data as part of an effort of continuous quality improvement and the adoption of best practices.  Presents monthly reports to the CEO regarding the year-to-date performance of the annual campaign.
• Establishes and maintains strong relationships for Planned Parenthood with people and with organizations throughout the service delivery area that have the potential to advance the success of fundraising efforts. 
• Develops the annual operating budget for fundraising, in cooperation with the budget building process then manages and monitors that budget in a way that ensures compliance with the organization's annual operating budget.
• Keeps current with all guidelines, regulations and ethical practices related to fundraising, and organizes the fundraising work at Planned Parenthood in accordance with those guidelines. 
• Keeps current on all general aspects of affiliate activities in order to speak competently and comprehensively to donors.
• Maintains a current understanding of the limits of 501c3 and 501c4 activities in order to ensure that all fundraising activities are permissible and never jeopardize the charitable status of PPINK.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
• Represent agency in professional organizations and attend visibility events.
• Provide accurate word-processing with routine projects being completed in an appropriate business format with specified deadline for each project.
• Prepare spreadsheets as needed and can effectively insert and utilize appropriate spreadsheet functions; maintain accurate and organized computer and paper files.
• Prepares and maintains accurate and organized computer and paper files.
• Assists in developing and adhering to department's budget.
• Understands, communicates and enforces the agency values, policies, guidelines and practices for all staff.
• Develops and cultivates collaborative relationships and partnerships.
• Oversees and staffs appropriate board committees relevant to planned giving and fundraising. Prepare information for board meetings and bi-monthly executive committee reports.  Serves on committees as requested.
• Schedule appointments; follow-up with scheduled appointments.
• Attend meetings and facilitate meetings with supervisor, co-workers and other departments' staff.
• Manage and prioritize work flow effectively.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in the fundraising, health, human services, business or related fields preferred. Five to seven years of management experience in the field required. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures and requires proven experience in fundraising or related area; excellent written, oral and mathematical skills. Proficiency in Raiser's Edge or similar donor software required. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  Proven track fundraising track record in the area of solicitation and closing of major gifts.
