Hamilton East Public Library seeks an energetic, creative, people-person to manage Ignite Studio at HEPL, the unique makerspace housed in the Fishers Library. This is a full-time, salaried position with supervisory responsibilities that requires someone comfortable overseeing art projects, creative technology, and community partners. 
Ignite is a unique public space that invites all members of our community to create together, to explore their own artistic potential, to learn new technologies, and to celebrate self-expression and discovery.  Those who work in Ignite must be willing and able to embrace the beauty of a chaotic, creative environment that will at times be messy, disorganized, busy, and loud.  The highest priority in Ignite is engagement: we want to inspire all who enter to feel comfortable and empowered to jump right in and make something.  Ignite staff members need to be able to promote a safe, supportive environment, while welcoming guests and managing the fair use of supplies and equipment. 

Position Purpose:
Manages and oversees the operations of Ignite Studio at HEPL, including planning, developing, communicating and implementing policies, procedures, and goals.  Oversees, develops and supports art projects, creative technology, and community partnerships. 

Essential Functions:
•  Develops and implements a strategy for maximum public engagement in Ignite
•  With the Impact Deputy Director, sets a vision and goals for artistic engagement, expression, and growth and determines, collects and reports statistics to measure progress.
•  Provides guidance and assistance with customer inquiries, requests and projects, including:
 •  Referring customers  to informational resources
 •  Assisting customers with the use of equipment and tools
 •  Locating materials and tools
 •  Helping guests through challenging or problematic stages of projects
•  Establishes and manages positive community connections that further the mission of Ignite and Hamilton East Public Library.
•  Develops, plans and delivers customer centered Ignite programs and services to promote the library's mission through periodic public projects, programming, presentations, classes, and special events.
•  Manages the use and maintenance of all equipment, engaging experts and contractors as needed.
•  Oversees selection, ordering, organization, weeding and use of art supplies, tools, and materials needed in Ignite.
•  Manages a strategy for training staff and patrons on the use of equipment and materials.
•  Directs and coordinates Ignite's financial activities, including the establishment and maintenance of budgetary goals.
•  Determines staffing requirements and interviews, hires, and trains new staff and volunteers.
•  Serves as a member of the library's management team to provide leadership for the library.
•  Performs all other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Responsible for interviewing and training employees and volunteers; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees and volunteers; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

MA in Museum Studies, Art Education, Arts Administration, or Education preferred. Bachelor's degree in a related field and ability to learn engagement techniques and use of equipment on the job required.
Minimum of three years of previous experience with public programming, preferrably arts programming
Previous supervisory experience preferred.

•  Communications and Media: Communicates ideas and thoughts clearly, accurately, and respectfully; listens to others and seeks to understand others' perspectives; has knowledge of communication techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and educate using electronic media, including but not limited to email, internet, and social media sites; has ability to adapt communication styles to customer's learning styles and needs
•  Adability:  Willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities; open to change and variety within the workplace; works to implement successful change in areas of responsibility; recommends and implements changes to improve processes, customer service, and to further the mission of Ignite
•  Image:Portrays a positive image of the library and local arts community; is a strong public ambassador and promotes library programs and services during customer interactions.
•  Technical:  Proficiency in using computers and related software; experience with and/or willingness to learn Maker technology, including but not limited to  3-d scanning and printing, audio and video recording, digital media production, and 2-d media production
•  Leadership and Development: Coordinates work and delegates appropriately to best accomplish department goals; provides clear standards for employee and volunteer achievement; fosters individual and collective creativity within the work group and with customers; provides immediate and effective feedback to employees concerning behavior and performance.

Availability: Must be available to work on some evenings and weekends to accommodate programming.
