The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors the American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation program which is held in Washington, D.C. for 100 select high school girls from across the country and is one of the country's premier privately-funded programs that offer firsthand experience through practical insight into how the federal government works.  As the  world's largest women's patriotic service organization, the American Legion Auxiliary National Headquarters is seeking an ALA Girls National Program Manager who is part of a dynamic team positively focused on helping the American Legion Auxiliary work the mission.

Organization Overview
The ALA National headquarters staff helps support the world's largest women's patriotic service organization of 800,000 members serving veterans, their families and their communities. 

Position Duties
• Works independently and within a team on managing and leading the strategizing, planning, and facilitating of the ALA Girls Nation program.  Acts as project manager for ALA Girls Nation, which may include planning and coordinating multiple events simultaneously.
• Financial responsibilities include developing and managing the ALA Girls Nation budget, receiving and reviewing ALA Girls Nation invoices, corresponding with hotels and/or vendors as necessary to resolve discrepancies, as well as being a signee on a bank account for incidental expenses at ALA Girls Nation, working with ALA Girls Nation volunteer staff to daily balance all accounts.
• Job requires travel 10% of the time, including at least one extended period from 10 to 14 days, one extended period from 3 to 5 days duration plus occasional weekend meetings.
• Coordinate and manage annual ALA Girls State Leadership Conference and ALA Girls Nation planning meetings, and work with Chairman to develop the agenda for said meetings. 
• Responsible for ensuring that meeting sites for ALA Girls State Leadership Conference, ALA Girls Nation planning meetings, and ALA Girls Nation are secured in conjunction with the appropriate parties, and that all necessary contracts, deposits and paperwork are completed.
• Ensure logistical details for ALA Girls Nation are covered including but not limited to room assignments and meals at the contracted facility, vendor selection, and obtaining all necessary permits;  all duties related to ALA Girls Nation inventories which include shipment of office and other supplies to the ALA Girls Nation site and replenishing items for the ALA Girls Nation store.
• Monitor the need for updates to the ALA Girls State Program and Operations Guide, managing the development of content and shepherding it through the editing and distribution process, while minimizing risk exposure for the organization through this process. 
• Works in tandem with the National Chairman in reaching the objectives outlined in the Plan of Action.
• Serves as an information resource for the ALA Girls Nation Chairman, ALA Department Girls State directors and Girls Nation senators.
• Monitors social media and answers daily inquiries on behalf of the Chairman as needed.
• Works with counterpart at The American Legion to coordinate the activities of Legion Boys Nation with ALA Girls Nation when the dates coincide.
• Ensures accurate and helpful documentation is kept for all program-related meetings and events, including timelines, tasks, budgets and contacts.
• Establishes and maintains historic documentation of significant occasions and events for the ALA Girls Nation program.
• Serves as Program Coordinator for additional programs as assigned.
• Performs all other duties as requested.

Position Qualifications
• Must be able to pass required scheduled background checks for working with youth.
• Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated sound judgment, poise, tact, and diplomacy.
• Ability to coach and guide volunteers of all ages.
• Proficiency in the use of personal computers and a variety of software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (e.g. Microsoft products, Concur Travel Systems, Cvent Event Management software) in a networked environment.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to organize and juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills - professional, timely, and courteous. Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
• Solid understanding of the principles and standard practices of program development for teenage girls, including general awareness and interest in current trends and cultural icons impacting teenagers.
• Respect for and knowledge of the U.S. government and the legislative process.
• Must possess the ability to discover new methods and be willing to incorporate them into existing activities in a non-profit environment.
• A strong personal commitment to veterans and military families.
• Ability to negotiate.
• Demonstrated fiscal responsibility.

Education Requirements:

1. Minimum education and experience:
a. Bachelor's degree (BA) from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study; and
b. Three to four years of related experience in project management; or
c. Any equivalent combination of education and related work experience

2. Related work experience must be functional work experience that gives the employee the required knowledge,   skills and abilities to perform the work of this position

3. Preferred Experience
a. Experience working with girls between the ages of 16-20 preferred. 
b. Non-profit work experience
c. ALA member or member eligible/veteran/ALA Girls State or ALA Girls Nation Alumni
