The Communications Manager will develop and execute the communications, marketing and public relations strategy for Susan G. Komen Central Indiana. Communications will 1) motivate audiences to donate, fundraise, participate in events or otherwise support the mission of Susan G. Komen in Central Indiana, 2) educate the community and establish Komen Central Indiana as a leading resource on breast health and breast cancer, and 3) reach new audiences and grow the reach of Komen Central Indiana within its 41-county service area. Communications include e-mail, social media, website, agency collateral materials, print and broadcast media placements with a focus on grassroots fundraising, event participation, education, community outreach and public relations.

Duties:
• Develop and manage the communications strategy and timelines for all communications from Komen Central Indiana, including e-mails, social media accounts, website, creation and distribution of print materials, public relations and earned media.
• Manage database of constituent lists and groups; serve as the internal expert on audience segmentation strategy and tools
• Ensure adequate frequency of communications, placement and coverage throughout the geographic service area.
• Engage volunteers and external partners at a high level in long-range planning and developing communications strategy, while also partnering with volunteers and external sources to distribute key messages and materials.
• Conduct all public relations activities, developing press releases, pitching stories and interview ideas and forge relationships with local media partners and contacts throughout the geographic service area.
• Develop and grow in-kind sponsored media and promotional partnerships.
• Write and send regular e-mail communications, both to the entire database and targeted audiences, and daily social media updates.
• Track and report on communications outcomes on an ongoing basis; using results to inform future strategic decisions
• Maintain the Susan G. Komen Central Indiana website and post regular news updates.
• Manage graphic design projects and event marketing campaigns, serving as manager of contracted graphic designer to provide guidance, develop timelines and ensure meeting deadlines.
• Monitor and manage communications budget for the Affiliate Send regular communications to team captains and participants, manage recognition of top fundraisers and the Pink Honor Roll.
• Provide support for Race for the Cure, Pink Tie Ball and other Affiliate events, interacting with event committees, especially as it relates to the marketing and communications activities for those events.
• Train and facilitate media coverage for Komen Ambassadors and survivors, participate in the selection process and craft survivor stories for content in local communications.
• Serve as internal expert on the Komen branding guidelines and ensure communications activities comply with guidelines from Komen headquarters.
• Represent the organization in the community and attend events.
• Provide exceptional customer service, field inquiries and offer support.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree
• Two to five years related experience in public relations, marketing, communications or fundraising, preferably with a nonprofit organization
• Superior written communications skills and ability to articulate the Komen mission in creative and effective ways
• Experience partnering with external stakeholders and utilizing external resources for the benefit of the organization
• Knowledge of best practices in public relations and nonprofit communications, paired with a desire to learn and adapt to the ever-changing environment and technology
• Creativity, problem solving and strategic-thinking skills
• A professional nature able to meet deadlines and quickly establish priorities with management of multiple projects/programs
• Interpersonal skills to work with a wide variety of volunteers and supporters
• Organizational skills with thoroughness, timeliness, and detail when working under pressure
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience with web editing, email marketing programs and relationship management databases a plus (specifically WordPress, Blackbaud Luminate TeamRaiser and Salesforce)
• Graphic art skills or experience creating video content a plus
• Knowledge of HTML or CSS a plus
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs with event set-up
• Travel, evening and weekend work are required for this position.
