United Way of Central Indiana, recognizes that the key to success is a strong and cohesive team that works through shared values to achieve our mission. The Marion County VITA Area Tax Site Coordinator is a member of our Community Impact team. This temporary seasonal position is funded by the IRS' Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) grant. The VITA program provides free tax assistance to underserved communities. It is designed to assist taxpayers with low-to-moderate income, persons with disabilities, elderly and Limited English Proficiency (LEP). Central Indiana's VITA program is a multidisciplinary collaboration of public and private entities focused on asset building and financial fitness.

Position Duties & Responsibilities
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.  They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified. 

• Answer tax return questions raised by volunteer tax preparers
• Submit tax returns electronically to the IRS from assigned VITA sites
• Conduct general, and spot-check-detailed, review of returns
• Regularly update Program Coordinator and UWCI Community Impact Manager regarding progress toward meeting programmatic objectives and identify challenges to meeting targets
• Organize logistics and staffing plan for all assigned VITA sites
• Develop and maintain schedule of operation for assigned VITA sites
• Ensure quality of returns and quality of volunteer efforts
• Collect and report on data on number of tax returns, number of volunteer hours, and other data as required for compliance with federal VITA grant
• Review error rates for each site and determine appropriate intervention
• Review and address customer service inquiries and complaints through April 30.
• Monitor supplies, forms and equipment at assigned mobile tax sites
• Maintain database of volunteer registrations, volunteer hours and volunteer level of certification
• Participate in monthly VITA Advisory Committee meetings
• Ensure compliance with all IRS rules and regulations for the VITA program
• Professionally represent UWCI and Indy Free Tax Prep in the community
• Performs special assignments and other work, on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree preferred.*
Proven experience in supervising volunteers. Strong project management skills with timely and consistent attention to follow up. Effective problem solver and decision maker.

*Work experience may substitute for education requirements on a case by case basis.
