  • - Indy Hunger Network
  • Indianapolis, IN, USA
  • VISTA/AmeriCorps

Indy Hunger Network employs innovative systems and networks to increase access to nutritional food. Develop your program coordination skills to help end hunger in Indianapolis!

Indy Hunger Network is a coalition of hunger relief agencies working to ensure that anyone who is hungry can get the food they need. This position is housed at Gleaners Food Bank.

In this role, the VISTA will oversee the Food Drop project and Small Pantries Network, two exciting and growing initiatives of the Indy Hunger Network. Food Drop is a website that helps truckers redirect rejected food loads to food banks instead of landfills.  The Small Pantries project brings pantries together to identify ways to improve service to their clients. The VISTA's work will focus on expanding the Food Drop program statewide and developing the network of small food pantries. The VISTA will also oversee the transition of Fresh Bucks, a program to double SNAP dollars spent on fresh produce, to a new home in one of our partner agencies.

Specific responsibilities:
• Identify and recruit new food banks for the Food Drop website, increasing coverage to the entire state
• Develop and implement an outreach plan to promote Food Drop to truckers, food banks and other partners
• Facilitate and foster a network of small food pantries in the Greater Indianapolis area
• Develop, coordinate, and promote the 2nd Annual Small Pantries Summit
• Work with partners to transition the Fresh Bucks program to its new sponsor (provide training and orientation, establish scope of their role, etc.)

By the end of your service term, you will have redirected hundreds of pounds of food from landfills to needy homes, and helped to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of local food pantries!

The position also offers:
• Camaraderie with 7 other VISTAs working under the Indy Hunger Network umbrella
• Team engagement activities, including bi-weekly meetings to discuss projects, socialize, and hear from guest presenters (includes free lunch!)
• Mentoring, one-on-one coaching, and professional development trainings
• Assistance preparing for life after VISTA (resume review, interview prep, etc.)
• Opportunities to work with leaders in the hunger relief space
• Opportunities to work independently and lead on projects

We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented and comfortable working independently.

Other qualifications include:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
