Indy Hunger Network is developing creative ways to improve access to food resources for women, infants and children facing food insecurity. Join us to help end hunger in the Greater Indianapolis area!

Indy Hunger Network is a coalition of hunger relief agencies working to ensure that anyone who is hungry can get the food they need. This position will be based at  Gleaners Food Bank.

The VISTA's role will include helping to market The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) to reach more moms and kids; working with low-income health clinics to reduce food insecurity in infants and their parents; working with a low-income apartment complex to help residents access food resources; and collecting data on WIC and SNAP participation rates and changes over time. 

Specific duties:
• Work with community partners to reduce food insecurity and increase food assistance awareness at low-income apartment complexes
• Work with a team of marketing professionals to reach mothers who could benefit from WIC
• Support community health workers at low-income health clinics to address food insecurity among pregnant mothers and parents of infants
• Assess each project for overall improvement of the food assistance system

The VISTA will have the opportunity to build an extensive network, gain valuable professional experience, and gain a deep understanding of both public and private agencies.

The position also offers:

• Team engagement activities, including bi-weekly meetings to discuss projects, socialize, and hear from guest presenters (includes free lunch!)
• Mentoring, one-on-one coaching, and professional development trainings
• Assistance preparing for life after VISTA (resume review, interview prep, etc.)
• Opportunities to work with leaders in the hunger relief space, including current and retired corporate executives and non-profit agency heads
• Opportunities to work independently and lead on projects

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, disciplined, thinks creatively and exhibits strong communication and interpersonal skills.  While all projects provide an opportunity to work collaboratively with food assistance professionals, most time is spent working independently.

Other required qualifications include:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong organizational skills
• Car recommended
• Some travel required
