Join a leader within the fair trade movement.  Global Gifts, a 501 C3 nonprofit fair trade organization with a 30 year history is seeking an executive director. The executive director reports to the board of directors and is responsible for providing oversight and strategic direction for all of Global Gifts programs and operations.  Global Gifts, with central offices in Indianapolis, operates four retail store locations, sells wholesale for Imani Workshops in Kenya, sells online, and has a strong educational component to our mission. 

A successful candidate will be passionate about our mission, have strong business skills, can motivate and empower a team of 25+ staff and over 300 volunteers, and will have demonstrated success in past work.  A successful candidate will:

• Have 5 years or more of leadership and staff management experience
• Have a strong knowledge of successful small shop retail including customer service, inventory management, merchandising and marketing
• Have strong financial management and budgeting skills
• Have experience negotiating beneficial commercial leases with landlords
• Be proficient in creating a detailed operational plan, based on the board approved strategic plan, to move the organization forward and provide a common direction for staff in different segments of Global Gifts' operations

The Executive Director provides direct oversight to a team including four store managers, marketing manager, Imani Wholesale coordinator, offsite sales coordinator and bookkeeper. 

Job responsibilities include:

• Facilitate communication and shared goals among employees in different areas
• Work with the board to develop and update the strategic plan and provide regular updates on operations.  Also help utilize board member abilities for the benefit of the organization
• Provide goals and broad direction for store operations along with marketing and regularly check in with managers about both.  Also work with managers to ensure ongoing excellence in:
    o Inventory management
    o Customer service
    o Merchandising and display
    o Marketing, events, and community outreach
• Create, follow, and adapt the organization's annual budget
• Work to develop and implement new opportunities and programs in support of our mission
• Responsible for negotiating and signing for all leases, accounts, contracts and so on with all landlords and service providers
• Respond to immediate needs throughout the organization and is a continued resource in problem solving
