Heritage Place of Indianapolis, Inc. provides older adults with comprehensive and coordinated services to encourage and promote healthy lifestyles, independence, well-being and quality of life. The Executive Director is the most visible face and voice of Heritage Place and plays a central role in fundraising, fiscal management, marketing, public relations, and community engagement for the organization.

Founded in 1976, Heritage Place of Indianapolis, Inc. provides older adults with comprehensive and coordinated human services to encourage and promote healthy lifestyles, independence, well-being and quality of life through a unique combination of center-based and at-home services. Heritage Place serves more than 1,250 older adults each year in northern Marion County with programs and services including educational, health and social programs at the senior center; care management; caregiver support services; friendly visiting; home and yard work program; and transportation programs. Heritage Place is a 501(c)(3) organization and is a member agency of the United Way of Central Indiana.

Put simply, the Executive Director is intended to be the most visible face and voice of Heritage Place within our various communities and constituencies.  As such, he or she should consistently, visibly, and genuinely reflect a  personal passion for providing comprehensive and coordinated human services to Indianapolis' older adults (see our full Vision statement at  As an executive level position, bedrock commitments to honesty, hard work, loyalty, and legal compliance are required.  The position is responsible for overall management and oversight as well as daily administration of the organization.  It is full-time and exempt and reports directly to the Board of Directors. 

While a detailed job description will be shared with candidates in advance of interviews, major responsibilities of the position include:
1) Fundraising – identifying and cultivating the widest possible variety of donation sources and creating and managing all related documentation and support activities (e.g., preparing proposals and budgets and submitting financial/statistical reports or other supporting information to funding sources); assisting with set-up, administration, and tear-down at regular and ad hoc fundraising activities. 
2) Fiscal Management – proper, transparent administration of all agency grants, funds, and assets.
3) Marketing, Public Relations and Community Engagement – developing and implementing effective outreach efforts that maximize the organization's exposure within available financial and other resources; zealously representing Heritage Place to and helping maintain its good standing with the United Way of Central Indiana; professionally and credibly representing Heritage Place at a wide variety of meetings and events.

In addition, the Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors, attending regular meetings and participating actively on committees.  The Executive Director oversees (and is responsible for interviewing, evaluating, and managing) a staff of approximately 3 full-time employees as well as a variable number of part-time employees, interns, and volunteers.  In close concert with staff, the Executive Director plans, implements, and evaluates the programs and services that Heritage Place offers, which includes and requires a commitment to continuous research and education related to issues facing the elderly. 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university; or eight to ten years related experience and/or training;  or equivalent combination of education and experience.
