The Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager is responsible for coordinating activities related to the recruiting, training and retention of qualified community volunteers to support School on Wheels' programming and organizational needs.  The Volunteer Outreach & Engagement Manager works collaboratively with other staff members, especially in the areas of volunteer training, program coordination, fundraising and community relations.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, execute, monitor, and evaluate agency volunteer engagement strategy based on organization goals and needs.
• Develop and oversee volunteer engagement budget.
• Implement metrics to evaluate success of recruitment activities and volunteer experience.
• Develop and foster partnerships with corporations, colleges, congregations, individuals, the community and any other avenue necessary to obtain the targeted number, quality, and diversity of relevant volunteers.
• Ensure introductory engagement opportunities for individuals interested in volunteering with School on Wheels are created and implemented.
• Build relationships that may lead to volunteer engagement opportunities by representing School on Wheels at relevant community networking and other events/forums.
• Ensure recruitment campaigns are executed through partnership development, development of printed materials, and employing marketing and media strategies.
• Schedule, plan, and facilitate meetings, events and presentations for volunteer engagement.
• Work closely with program team to coordinate and strategize volunteer priorities and needs.
• Collaborate with development department as it relates to corporate partners and employee volunteer engagement and volunteer engagement for events, including, but not limited to Run317
• Recruit and manage corporate and community tutoring teams, fostering partnerships to further engage them with School on Wheels
• Ensure consistent and timely documentation of volunteer applicants in database.
• Collaborate with Volunteer and Arts Coordinator to ensure all volunteer applicants are moved through the application process in a timely manner and are scheduled to sites fitting the individual needs of the volunteer and managing appropriate tutor to student ratios.
• Maintain accurate and up to date records of partnerships/relationships in database.
• Provide organizational training to tutors once they have cleared that application, background check and reference check processes.
• Develop and oversee a volunteer recognition and appreciation plan, including an annual volunteer appreciation event.
• Lead and provide vision for Diversity Committee of the Board of Directors.
• Lead and provide vision for SPOKES, School on Wheels' young professionals board.

Leadership/Manager Duties:
• Participate in functions of hiring, coaching, training, disciplining, and terminating, according to School on Wheels policies, as needed.  Develops and holds staff accountable to work efficiently and effectively and to achieve individual and team goals while complying with organization polices.
• Assist in facilitating team planning and budgeting.
• Monitor and communicate metrics for the department relating to volunteer program.

• Attend required meetings and events as scheduled.
• Establish and promote positive communication among all team members of School on Wheels to increase collaboration and reduce inefficiencies.
• Represent School on Wheels in a professional manner at all times, providing courteous service to both internal and external constituents and presenting a positive image of School on Wheels.
• Abide by School on Wheels policies and practices.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Performance will be evaluated based on meeting the requirements of the job description; meeting performance metrics and other quality indicators established for this position; working effectively in a team environment; and demonstrating the values of School on Wheels.

Experience, education, degrees, and licenses
Minimum requirements:
• Bachelor Degree. 
• Participation in continuing educations programs as requested.
• Participation in and becoming a member of CIAVA as appropriate
• Experience in public speaking, communications, and/or sales/marketing preferred.
