Help Your Future Neighbors! The Indiana Women's Prison is seeking a dynamic, passionate individual to lead our efforts in community engagement and volunteer management. The facility was established in 1869 and it has a rich history as being the 1st women's prison in the country. It was moved from its original site on the Near Eastside in 2009 to its current location on Girls School Road, just west of Speedway, Indiana.

In 2017, the facility engaged well over 450 volunteers that performed over 3,000 hours of volunteer service. The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the training, management, and coordination of all volunteers and volunteer programming within the facility. In addition to volunteer management, this position also has the unique responsibility to engage the community outside of the facility by locating resources to serve the population. The Community Engagement Coordinator works with staff and offenders to identify the needs of the facility and see that those needs are fulfilled, developed, and continuously evaluated for effectiveness.

Responsibilities include:
• Directs the planning, development, recruitment, performance and review of facility volunteer programming to achieve the objectives of the facilities goals.
• Oversee all volunteer programs utilizing community resources and ensuring that programs are developed and implemented commensurate with acceptable standards.
• Provides information to the public and community agencies regarding general questions about the facility.
• Coordinates ongoing volunteer programs and volunteer recruitment.
• Facilitates al volunteer orientation and annual training.
• Represents the facility at community service organization and religious programming meetings and is in contact with local community service personnel.
• Conducts tours of the facility and presents informal education programs for local community service agencies.
• Maintains a specialized knowledge of community-based programs, agencies, and governmental entities that have relevance to community service program areas and goals.
• Reviews all incoming policy and procedural information for recommendations to the Program Director on distribution and implementation and assures that all changes in policy or procedure are communicated to the proper staff and volunteers for implementation.
• Solicits facility staff regarding community service and volunteer needs and developing appropriate reports, plans of action, recommendations, and following through on implementation.
• Participates in the selection of community service volunteers and evaluates volunteer and program performance.


Five years full-time professional experience in Business Administration; Community Service; Communications; Corrections; Education; Health Care Administration; Public Administration; Public Relations; or related experience.

Accredited college training in any of the following areas may substitute for up to four years of the required experience on a year for year basis: Business Administration; Communications; Education; Public Administration; Public Relations, Social Sciences; Volunteer Administration; or related areas. Accredited graduate training in any of the above areas may substitute for up to one year of the required experience.
