The Director of Food Programs has lead responsibility for food distribution programs – Youth, Mobile, and Senior.  The Director of Food Programs leads the youth programs (BackSacks: Weekend Food for Kids, School-Based Pantries, & Summer Meals for Kids), mobile programs (classic, CARE, Drop N Gos, etc.), and Senior Hunger Initiative to maximize the efficient and effective food distribution methods through these programs. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with Feeding America, government regulations, and health codes as well as all donor/grant requirements. This position is also responsible for the overall education, reporting, and communication while exhibiting the highest standards of customer service. All responsibilities shall be consistent with Gleaners Food Bank's mission to lead the fight against hunger.

Position Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
• Oversee the development, implementation, analysis, improvement and/or expansion of Gleaners' food distribution programs with the goal of creating effective partnerships and approaches to hunger relief for children, families, and seniors.
• Oversee program managers responsible for youth, mobile, and senior programs.
    o Provide direction, guidance, and support to each team.
    o Provide direction and support for the enrollment, monitoring, and/or program agreements of partners.
    o Ensure training to promote effective and efficient delivery of services.
    o Ensure compliance with all applicable Feeding America, government regulations, and health codes.
    o In conjunction with operations and agency relations, ensure that distribution goals are met. At a minimum, each county must exceed half the network median of meals per persons in need (MPIN) for every rolling 12 month quarter.
• Oversee the distribution of as much healthy, nutritious food as possible.
    o Consult with Nutrition Manager, food acquisition team, and program managers in food selection.
    o Ensure age appropriate in selection of food and/or menus.
    o Consider nutritional value, taste, budget, packaging, and other factors as appropriate.
• Consult with Nutrition Manager in nutrition education as it relates to food distribution programs.
• Strategically identify opportunities for cross-collaborations within each program.
• Collaborate with Operations to effectively and efficiently direct the food distribution programs.
    o Provide direction and support to team so that each area can maximize efforts.
    o Ensure food safety requirements are followed.
• Collaborate with Advancement & Finance Departments in Fund Raising Efforts as it relates to Food Programs.
    o Manage program support for donor proposals, requirements, reports, and related matters.
    o Ensure tracking system that monitors progress, metrics, and timely reports (internal & external).
• Direct efforts to ensure programs have pertinent information regarding legislation and community actions that impact their funding and programming.
• Personnel Management
    o Provide supervision, coaching, training, and evaluations to staff.
    o Make recommendations for hew hires or disciplinary action related to staff positions.
    o Motivate staff to be an effective part of the Gleaners team working together to achieve the organization's goals.
    o Promote and achieve a positive work environment.
• Administrative duties:
    o Serve as an active member of Gleaners' management team.
    o Contribute to the development and management of the annual operating budget.
    o Provide reports to the Chief Programs & Community Collaborations Officer and other departments, as required.
    o Conduct on-going benchmarking to obtain key lessons learned and proactively identify new trends in the Feeding America network.
    o Assist with implementing and analyzing evaluation measures.
    o Ensure education, reporting, and communication while always exemplifying the highest standards of customer service.
    o Ensure that all customers are dealt with in a warm, courteous, and helpful manner.
    o Verify timely response to partners at all times and satisfactory resolution of any issues.

Other Functions:
• Complete all functions while demonstrating behaviors consistent with Gleaners' mission, vision and values and as a public representative of the organization.
• Work across departments in order to support a comprehensive and integrated approach to decreasing service gaps.
• Provide input for organizational communications, including story bank, newsletter, website content, etc.
• Participate in departmental planning, budgeting, and staff development.
• Assist with long-range planning as needed.
• Provide information for fiscal year-end audit as needed.
• Provide information for Feeding America's Annual Network Activity Report, biennial audit, and other reports as needed.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities an individual needs in order to perform this job successfully.

Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
• Food Safety and Handling Certified, or ability to be certified.
• Minimum of five years' work experience in a related field.
• Experience in customer service or quality assurance.
• Ability to maintain accurate customer files and complete required reports.

Language Skills:
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, written communication and presentation skills.
• Bilingual in Spanish is desired.

Mathematical/Reasoning Skills:
• Basic math and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to analyze large quantities of data.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills.

Technical/Computer Skills:
• Ability to work a computer, copier, fax machine, telephone, and other office equipment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel/Access/Word/Outlook/PowerPoint and Google Docs.
• Ability to work in databases.

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:
• Valid driver's license/Clean driving record /Must be insurable by company vehicle insurance provider.
