More About Us:  Beacon of Hope Crisis Center is a confidential and safe place where individuals who are or have been a victim of domestic violence and/or sexual assault can receive advocacy services and referrals.  Our advocates assist with safety planning and let victims know what is available for them within our agency or one of our agency partner service providers.  We assist in many ways, a few of those ways are helping with filings and paperwork, court accompaniment, helping to find a bed in a domestic violence shelter when that is needed, fostering pets while victim(s) are in shelter, helping with the healing process, counseling, steps toward independence and self-sufficiency for long-term improved quality of life.

Description:
Reporting to the CEO, the Controller will be responsible for oversight of all financial, accounting and reporting activities. The Controller assists the CEO and Board of Directors in managing the organization's accounting and financial operations. We are looking for an experienced nonprofit accounting manager with advanced excel, analytical, and financial skills. The ideal candidate should have a minimum two years demonstrated experience in finance and/or nonprofit operations, strong accounting and finance management skills, and passion for our mission. Strong experience with Quick Books, payroll preparation, payroll taxes and all nonprofit 501(c)3 tax filings. The Controller will prepare materials that convey the state of the finances for the organization to the Board Treasurer and CEO prior to each board meeting so that the Board Treasurer can absorb the information and ask the Controller any questions in advance and is equipped to inform the Board.  The Controller will keep audit ready records and will prepare materials for audit and will work closely with leadership.  The Board Treasurer will regularly look at the activities performed in QuickBooks and will review financials, quality of accounting and reporting and give input to the CEO regarding the performance of the Controller.

This position will begin as Part-Time and may evolve into Full-Time; any interested applicants must be willing to transition into a Full-Time role.

The Controller will have experience and capability to successfully lead all day-to-day finance operations of a nonprofit budget of $1 million and be capable of functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, taxes, reconciliation, gaming and grants administration. The Controller needs to have a strong well-rounded understanding of all facets of nonprofit financial matters and be able to perform job functions utilizing current digital technology, software and programs. This role requires exemplary verbal and written communication skills. All verbal and written interactions must always be professional and donor-centric.  Seeking someone with a high attention to detail, and knowledge of accrual accounting, tax laws, tax filings, financial reputation management, grant fiscal reporting and OMB compliance. The Controller ensures that Beacon of Hope Crisis Center has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program and service delivery and conduct flawless audits.

Responsibilities:
    Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
    Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
    Always be donor focused whether thanking a financial or in-kind donor or following up on late receipt of something promised; all communication needs to be professional and kind and to go above and beyond leading to on-going positive interactions.
    Ensure that all filings are accurately and timely completed and that we are always informed and in good tax and business status standing.
    Always maintain extreme confidentiality and keep safe secure records and backups.
    Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of financial status.
    Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
    Support the CEO in engaging the board's audit and finance members/committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
    Manage all accounting and financial functions; establish, modify, and coordinate the implementation of accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
    Ensure accounting accuracy and review monthly account closing; review, analyze and reconcile monthly financial statements.
    Work collaboratively and develop/manage as directed budget process activities; forecast company operational and financial aspects.
    Prepare financial reports and analysis, provide timely reviews of organization's financial status and progress.
    Work collaboratively and develop as directed preparation of budgets and financial reports for grants application and reporting.
    Advise/implement necessary steps to achieve operational objectives based on understanding of the overall activities of the organization.
    Work with external auditors and tax accountant on annual audit and tax reports.
    Manage office services, vendor relations, and at times contract negotiations as directed.
    Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.

Qualifications
    QuickBooks experience required; a high level of QB software knowledge.
    Maintain a positive communicative style with internal staff without compromising confidentiality of financial knowledge.
    Personal qualities of integrity, confidentiality, credibility, and unwavering commitment to our mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the CEO, the responsibility for finance.
    Minimum of a BA; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
    Experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, gaming and e-commerce.
    Grants management experience as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is essential.
    Technology savvy and knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
    Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance stakeholders.
    Strong computer skills, highly proficient in Excel analysis.
    Logical thinking, adept at crunching numbers.
    Proven financial analysis skills, demonstrated initiative, self-direction, and a "can-do" attitude.
    Ability to understand nonprofit accounting and legal compliance requirements.
    Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
    Excellent interpersonal and team skills.
    Experience working with a donor database or constituent relationship management system a plus.
    Financial reputation account setups and regular maintenance; communication of status on these key account sites.
    Creative communication - written, internet and social media - regarding ways to increase positivity and donor gifts.
