The Director is responsible for the management and strategic direction for all membership and chapter programs of the Society by performing duties personally or through direct reports and provides a broad scope of member services. The Director serves as the primary advocate and ambassador for members. The Director evaluates the effectiveness of strategies for increasing the value of membership, understanding of member needs, engaging and involving members, creating robust member communities, and ensuring the chapters are providing a consistent, high quality local experience and suggests changes appropriate to achieving Society goals as defined in the strategic plan.

About the Organization:  
Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education, was founded in 1911 to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. For over a century, the Society has consistently grown, starting with a local chapter to become the international organization it is today. KDP currently has more than 650 chapters (institutional, international, liaison, professional, and affiliate) in 4 regions and a total membership of more than 36,000 active members. KDP membership includes educators in the K-12 setting, administrators, university faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and retirees.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manage the Membership & Chapter Services staff. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, and supervising a team of 5 full-time employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develops and implements a comprehensive strategic vision for membership.
 a. Identify, analyze, and report on metrics to monitor membership growth, trends, and financial results to support decision-making and strategic planning.
 b. Manage membership development processes to achieve membership goals.
 c. Develop new member benefits and services for all member segments to ensure a strong value proposition and relevancy in the profession.
 d. Recruit new professional members and approve all professional applications.
 e. Review membership structure and pricing frequently to support annual budget and anticipated revenue.
 f. Work with Society leaders, volunteers, and the Membership & Chapter Services staff to establish and sustain collegiate, professional, international, liaison, and affiliate chapters.
 g. Periodically review the staffing configuration to effectively manage membership and chapter needs and services.

2. In close collaboration with the Chapter Services staff, guides the work of chapters.
 a. Oversee the development of recruitment and member retention strategies.
 b. Evaluate the effectiveness of strategies for increasing the value of chapter membership, engaging and involving chapter officers, creating robust chapter communities, and ensuring the chapters are providing a consistent, high quality local experience.
 c. Develop strategies for creative problem solving and recommend plans of action to increase the number of chapters that effectively meet Society recruitment and policy goals, grow and maintain members, and achieve financial stability.
 d. Work to expand KDP's presence through the creation of new chapters of all kinds, coordinating ongoing solicitation for new chapters and re-installations.

3. In partnership with the Director of Advancement & Communications, develop and implement a comprehensive marketing program for membership recruitment, retention, and reactivation for both student members (through chapters) and professional members.
 a. Assist in the development of communication strategies to address retention challenges at key transition points.
 b. Review materials to ensure effective communication about membership processes, initiatives, benefits, services, and programs.
 c. Oversee the development of member acquisition and retention marketing materials for use by chapters, volunteers, and the Society.
 d. Review Communications Plan, developed by the Director of Advancement & Communications, and assist with ongoing development to ensure the membership is aware and actively engaged in resources, such as the Society's online community, KDP Global.
 e. Assist in driving initiatives that are impactful, increase visibility and perceptions of the organization.

4. In collaboration with the Executive Director, participate in needs assessments and data collection processes.
 a. Oversee the development and distribution of an annual membership survey.
 b. Incorporate findings and recommendations into the strategic plan.

5. Work with Database Administrator and IT Coordinator to review monthly processes, membership reports, member self-service functionality, and to identify and assist in implementing ways to use technology in the membership development process for increased operational efficiency and improved member experience.

6. Oversee volunteer and committee recruitment to support important KDP initiatives.
 a. Work with the Executive Assistant for development of annual volunteer recruitment effort.
 b. Analyze existing and potential new volunteer roles to support staff efforts and strategic plan.

7. Work in conjunction with other staff in planning annual Convocation, webinar series, regional workshops, and other member events/conferences.
8. Serve as staff liaison to the international Membership Committee, ad hoc task forces, and other volunteer groups as needed.
9. Review, route and respond to member- or chapter- related inquiries, problems, or concerns.

Education
1. Bachelor's degree required.
2. Special consideration given to candidates with a Master's degree in Student Affairs, Leadership, or Organizational Communication or a Bachelor's degree in Education, Communication, Business, or Marketing.

Experience
1. At least 7 years of professional work experience in relevant membership or chapter-based roles in non-profit association with increasing responsibilities.
2. Supervision experience required.
3. Additional experience or knowledge of higher education or classroom education is a plus.

Desired Qualifications
1. Proficient in relational database management (data management, data entry, queries, reports, web interface).
2. Demonstrated record of achievement in developing and retaining membership for a professional society.
3. Knowledge in leveraging web-based and other new technologies, including social media, to build membership, enhance products and services, and encourage member involvement and engagement.
4. Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, and manage complex projects with limited supervision.
5. Considerable knowledge of strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, assessment, member relationship management, and negotiation.
6. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to interact effectively and cordially with people on the phone and in person and the ability to write succinctly and persuasively.
