The Family Learning Navigator for The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, Inc. is responsible for executing the Mid-North Promise Program (MNPP) by advising families from the six neighborhoods which surround the museum as they develop individualized "family learning plans" to attain college and career goals. The Navigator acts as a convener and advisor to refer families to selected external service providers that afford: (1) college and career counseling; (2) workforce development resources; (3) out of school time programming (4) early childhood learning, and/or (4) mentoring resources. The incumbent tracks and monitors families' participation in programming offered by the museum and external service providers and communicates trends, concerns and successes to appropriate constituents. He/she plans and executes college and career recruitment events for families who reside in the neighborhood around the museum.

Mid-North Promise Programs Manager
 
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Works with museum neighborhood families to develop individualized Pre-K through postsecondary education family learning plans which assist families with realizing their college and career goals.
2. Works with departmental colleagues to organize and execute the awareness of marketing campaigns and events to recruit neighborhood families into the program as well as to connect them with college and career resources.
3. Supports the MNPP by assisting families to navigate the resources available to them. Facilitates orientation sessions and goal setting workshops for program participants to develop their family learning plans. Identifies and incorporates external resources to support individual family learning plans, based on individual goals and desired outcomes
4. Ensures complete and accurate registration information is captured including information concerning the families' demographic, educational, and socioeconomic background(s).
5. Maintains ongoing tracking and documentation of families who have been referred to museum programming and/or partner service providers and their participation status. Coordinates data collection to support the tracking and reporting of the Mid-North Promise Program to museum staff, board, family learning program partners, and the larger community.
6. Identifies and utilizes appropriate cultural and community family learning resources to connect to neighborhood families. Establishes and maintains relationships with family
learning partner service providers. Serves as the navigator, point of contact, and advocate for families working with family learning partner service providers.
7. Assists families in problem solving potential family learning issues related to educational and career attainment and financial and social barriers. Maintains consistent contact with families enrolled in the MNPP to offer encouragement and support.
8. Participates in troubleshooting, mitigating and addressing issues and concerns of participants. Ensures smooth execution of museum programs and supports productive relationships with family learning partner service providers.
9. Compiles, assembles and distributes stories about the museum's involvement and the families' learning experiences in the program in a timely and effective manner.
10. Makes presentations to community members, family learning service providers, and museum staff, regarding the program's status, accomplishments and challenges.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor's degree in student affairs, guidance, elementary or secondary education, or a related field. Three (3) years of experience in Student Services, Case Management, Social Work or resource and referral services related to education. Experience and background in PreK-12 and/or post-secondary education and community resources is preferred.
2. Experience in communicating and working with people from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, age ranges, racial, ethnic, religious and political backgrounds, beliefs, and practices.
3. Ability to communicate effectively with experience in preparing and making analyses, reports, and presentations of performance, proposals, and plans for management.
4. Ability to establish rapport with clients with a track record of delivering strong customer service.
5. Ability and willingness to attend a variety of meetings; regular evening and weekend hours as required.
6. Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously and the organizational skills to coordinate events and processes.
7. Valid Indiana Driver's License.
 
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to view computer monitor, review documents, create and transpose meeting minutes.
2. Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, visitors, and neighborhood residents, via, telephone/TDD, one-on-one conversations, public presentations and written correspondence.
3. Requires extensive use of keyboards, calculators, and other administrative equipment.
4. Must be able to negotiate stairs, sit or stand for extensive periods of time, carry laptop computer and create and distribute large volumes of paperwork and/or supplies for neighborhood meetings.
5. Must be able to lift up to 40lbs, negotiate local and regional travel, tolerate dust in the environment and work outdoors on occasion.
