Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education, seeks a full-time Executive Director with a start date of January 2019. KDP was founded in 1911 to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. At a critical time in the reshaping of educational services worldwide, the new executive director will play a leadership role in the future of the profession. The organization's motto is "Knowledge, Duty, Power," and its mission is to sustain an honored and resilient community of diverse educators by promoting excellence and advancing scholarship, leadership, and service. For more than a century, the Society has consistently grown, starting with one local chapter, to become today's international organization of 670 chapters in 28 countries, and a membership that exceeds 37,000 active members. Through a variety of programs, services, and resources, KDP supports and advances the professional growth of educators throughout all phases and levels of their teaching careers. The organization is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.
 
Overall Responsibility:
The Executive Director is responsible to the Executive Council of Kappa Delta Pi for implementing the Society's vision and providing leadership and direction of the Society through and with the Kappa Delta Pi staff. As the elected governing body of the Society, the Executive Council works with the Executive Director on policy; program, operational, and planning initiatives; budgetary and financial requirements; personnel needs and development; and membership services and retention. The Executive Director oversees Headquarters operations, manages a staff of 21, serves as the main liaison between the Executive Council and the membership, and is a primary representative to the Society's membership. The Executive Director coordinates staff support for the annual conference of approximately 800 plus attendees and oversees three award-winning quarterly publications, including two academic journals (The Educational Forum and the Kappa Delta Pi Record) and one practical magazine (New Teacher Advocate).
As an international organization affiliated with the United Nations, achieving KDP's mission requires its Executive Director to have a range of multicultural experiences and skills to enhance global growth. With KDP's leadership in sustainability education, the Executive Director collaborates with diverse international stakeholders to advance the knowledge and integration of education for sustainable development in the world's education systems.
 
In addition to strong leadership and management skills, the ideal candidate will possess:
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• Planning and project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects at once and the ability to objectively evaluate KDP's many programs and services
• Budgeting and financial management experience
• Team building and human resource/talent management skills
• Grant proposal writing and fundraising skills
• Operations management experience
• Advocacy experience and the ability to establish good working relationships with the community-at-large, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help promote the visibility and achieve the goals of the organization
 
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have unquestionable integrity; have a passion for promoting excellence in teaching and providing support to educators; demonstrated success in managing a membership-based association or a mission-driven, nonprofit organization; flexibility to travel (including internationally); a minimum of a bachelor's degree and 5–7 years of experience in a senior leadership position, with a master's degree or higher preferred. The professional designation of Certified Association Executive is also preferred.
