The Development Officer promotes the vision and mission of a great, catholic, liberal arts university through the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual, multi-year, and deferred gifts/pledges from various constituents, to include: alumni, parents, friends, the business community, and other prospects. We seek a highly-motivated professional who can both work independently and thrive as part of a collaborative team. The ideal candidate will serve as an ambassador connecting with donors and providing them with opportunities to become/remain engaged in the life of Marian University and see their philanthropic support making a difference.

Principal Accountabilities:
• Gift cultivation and solicitation for major gifts for Marian University, working in conjunction with the other advancement team members through a prospect management process. This position will maintain an ever-changing portfolio of approximately 150 prospects with emphasis on gifts at the $10,000+ level.
• Take timely and strategic steps in moving prospects through the major gift cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, and stewardship.
• Generate interest, support, and commitment to Marian University campaigns and initiatives.
    o Launched in the fall of 2017, the Forging Leaders Initiative (www.marian.edu/forgingleaders) has a bold vision to forge leaders who have, can, and will change the world. More than $96 million has been raised of the $150 million goal by 2025. This initiative provides support for facilities, programs, scholarships, faculty, and other innovative efforts in several areas including:
      - Athletics
      - Byrum School of Business
      - Experiential learning
      - Klipsch Educators College
      - Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine and health professions
      - Mission and identity efforts
      - Student activities
• Work closely with the Office of Institutional Advancement team, the President, deans, faculty/staff members, and various volunteers/committee members in gift cultivation and solicitation.
• Collaborate with other members of the Office of Institutional Advancement team in developing and implementing a fundraising and engagement strategy to identify donors and prospects.
• Monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals with regard to the number of personal visits, solicits, and gift securing will be expected and tracked. Regular progress reporting and tracking is required in a timely manner.
• Possess strong organizational skills, the ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities, and the ability to develop relationships with people of all backgrounds and experiences.
• Recruit, train, and support volunteers in their involvement with committees, task forces, and fundraising endeavors.
• Participate in advancement events by securing sponsors, promoting attendance, and providing strategic direction in the planning process. Advancement events include a gala in the fall, athletic awards dinner in the spring, various appreciation/recognition events, golf outing, etc.
• Attend various on and off-campus events as a representative of Marian University.
• All activities shall be consistent with the strategic plan of the university and the Office of Institutional Advancement.
• Participate in or lead special projects, as assigned.

Job Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university.
• A minimum of three years direct fundraising experience, preferably in a college or university environment.
• Ability to write, analyze, and interpret giving information, financial reports, and legal documents and utilize this information in planning processes. Ability to effectively present (written and verbal correspondence) information and respond to questions from internal and external constituencies.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to incorporate these conclusions/findings into strategic and tactical plans.
• Willingness to work an "irregular" schedule (periodic nights and weekends) and travel.
• Must be able to have and maintain a valid Indiana Driver's License without restrictions.
• Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification preferred.
• Raiser's Edge database experience preferred.
• Must have strong computer skills and outstanding communication'both oral and written'and outstanding interpersonal skills. Must be well-organized, self-started, a collaborative planner, and work with members of the Institutional Advancement team individually and in groups.

Essential Functions:
Working hours necessary to perform job requirements satisfactorily on a regular basis. Managing absence from work in responsible manner to ensure service to clients, work teams, and coworkers. Complying with Marian University policies and practices and seeking clarification of them when necessary.
