The Board of Directors of Step-Up, Inc. is seeking to hire an effective human services professional to serve as Executive Director.  This individual will lead the organization to achieve its mission and vision. This person should be innovative and able to lead Step-up into the future as a securing its role in the HIV/AIDS services and support arena; and as an organization that is committed to delivering effective, innovative and culturally responsive programs and services for traditionally marginalized and underserved communities.

The Executive Director will not only work to ensure that Step-up is a model service organization, but will also work with the board and the leadership to sustain and maintain a collaborative, strength based, and positive culture and climate in the organization such that Step-up is viewed as an employer of choice.

The responsibilities of the Executive Director:

Operations and Management:
• Effectively manages the human resources responsibilities of the organization according to established personnel policies and procedures that meet or exceed State and Federal employment policies.
• Supervises by providing guidance and support to the leadership team directly and provides indirect supervision and guidance for the staff.
• Shares established benchmarks and goals with the leadership team and empowers the leadership team to guide their teams to achieving the stated these goals.

Fund Development and Grants Management:
• Assist in the preparation of the annual budget for the Board, ensures that it is aligned with the organizational objectives and is aligned with funder requirements and legal requirements.
• Also ensures that budget and program reports are prepared for the board that are transparent and accurately reflect how resources are being utilized, unmet needs and future projections.
• Works in conjunction with the Board to ensure that the organization has the funds and resources (volunteer, in-kind, contributions) it needs to meet and/or exceed its stated objectives.
• Assist in identifying potential grants, funders, partners and resources to maintain the operations, programs and staff.  Also works to ensure funds are available to sustain the organization and build its capacity.
• Monitors the utilization of resources (fiscal, volunteer, and in-kind contributions) in conjunction with leadership team and the board.
• Can assist in grant writing, reporting, filing, compiling program reports, monitoring the budget and finances for accuracy and transparently.

Leadership
• Works in conjunction with the Board of Directors, Staff, Stakeholders and the larger community to create and sustain a shared vision for the organization.
• Serves as an ambassador and liaison advocating for resources, policies, and practices that support programs, services and supports for individuals impacted by HIV/AIDS and from traditionally marginalized and/or disenfranchised communities.
• Stays abreast of policy and practice trends at the local, regional, state and national levels.
• Able to mobilize and engage the staff to achieve or exceed its stated performance objectives. Ensures that staff has the training, technical assistance, tools, resources and supports needed to meet their goals and achieve their personal and professional objectives.
• Ensures that the organization remains fiscally solvent and engages in good stewardship.

Community Engagement and Networking:
• Ensures that the organization has and sustains strong, diverse, and engaged community partners, relationships with funders, stakeholders, partner organizations, coalitions, human service professionals, and governmental entities on local, regional, state and federal levels.
• Also maintains strong relationships and engagement with individuals in the targeted population.
• Establishes and maintains a strong community presence and positive image in the community with stakeholders ensuring that Step-up is viewed as leader in the human services and HIV/AIDs arena.
• An effective public speaker can speak effectively and advocate effectively for the needs of individuals served now and in the future.
• Primarily responsible for managing and ensuring aspects of the Community Action Group activities and efforts are met.

Education/Experience:
• A proven leader in the Human Services Arena:  A bachelor's degree in public health, Non-Profit Management, Social Work, Finance, Management or related social services area is desired. Master's degree preferred.
• A Minimum of 5-7 years of Senior Management experience which includes prior supervision experience, successful grant writing, fund development, program management, and leadership/advocacy.
• Prior knowledge of the needs and issues impacting individuals impacting by HIV/AIDS and traditionally marginalized/disenfranchised communities.
• Demonstrated commitment to serving and working with marginalized and traditionally underserved communities in culturally responsive and inclusive ways.
• Strong communication skills: writing, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
