The Indiana State Bar Association seeks an energetic, team-oriented person to serve as one of our Section and Committee Liaisons. The position is a great opportunity for those interested in gaining experience in nearly all aspects of non-profit management, such as: volunteer management, event planning, governance, legislative affairs and educational programming.
 
ISBA, the state's largest legal organization, works to improve the administration of justice while helping the public gain a better understanding of the legal system. We do this by serving and advocating on behalf of our members, their clients and the public interest. Our two Section and Committee Liaisons help reach this goal by guiding our interest groups, which we call sections or committees. This position will work with about 15 groups.
 
Position duties:

• Volunteer management:
 o Acts as primary coach to section council members, including mentoring and support for the effective coordination of services to the general section members
 o Serves as an ongoing resource to section/committee leaders, so that they may be more effective leaders of their constituent groups.
 o Works closely with volunteer leaders to maximize efficiency in management of section/committee affairs.
 o Works with the Executive Director to develop and executive annual section/committee leadership orientation program.

• Event planning/educational programming:
 o Responsible for implementing section/committee events in coordination with key volunteers, community members, and staff.
 o Establishes desires of section/committee including but not limited to:
  > Type of program (educational/networking)
  > Type of venue
  > Reception or meal (if applicable)
  > Target audience
  > Preferred cost to members
 o Develops and executes budget for specific events.
 o Assists in attracting sponsors for various events.
 o Assists in soliciting speakers (in conjunction with section/committee members).
 o Oversees all marketing and communication related to specific events.
 o Oversees on-site logistics for specific events.
 o Provides on-site support for annual multi-day conferences, such as Annual Meeting and Solo & Small Firm Conference.

• Governance:
 o Acts as liaison for sections/committees and ISBA Board of Governors.
 o Works with volunteer leaders to set strategic direction (and develop annual plans) in conjunction with ISBA strategic direction.
 o Works with volunteer leaders to develop meeting agendas.
 o Monitors and works with volunteer leaders to update section bylaws.
 o Works with volunteers to create yearly reports for House of Delegates.

• Legislative affairs:
 o Works with volunteer leaders and ISBA Legislative Counsel to monitor legislative activity that may impact section/committee members.
 o When necessary, works with section leadership to gain endorsement from ISBA Board of Governors as it relates to advocacy or legislative matters.

• Administrative:
 o Develops and manages section/committee budgets to ensure balance between member desires and fiscal responsibility is met.
 o Analyzes section/committee incomes and spending to ensure section/committee is fiscally responsible.
 o Gathers and oversees distribution of meeting materials (agenda, minutes, financial report, etc).
 o Retains section/committee records which include: meeting attendance, relevant documents, rosters, event attendance, agenda, minutes, financial reports, budgets, etc.
 o Maintains section/committee pages on ISBA website.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Experience in volunteer management.
2. Strong organizational skills are a must.
3. Must be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally.
4. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in work.
5. Persistent self-motivator who can work with minimal oversight and achieve team goals.
6. Excellent writing and communication skills.
7. Effective interpersonal skills.
8. Strong, demonstrated understanding of social media and emerging technology.
9. Proven ability to meet deadlines and successfully motivate a wide variety of individuals.
10. Ability to manage multiple projects and follow each carefully from inception to
completion.
11. Strong computer skills, with the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and databases.
12. Bachelor's degree preferred.
