The Play Program Director is responsible for the growth, quality, and development of Brookside CDC's youth programming (Brookside Community Play). The primary responsibility of the program director is to manage the day-to-day operations of Play programming. He/she will be a culture-creator who can foster an atmosphere of fun and engagement for children, parents, and volunteers. He/she will understand approaches to trauma intervention and will be able to create a safe place for participants. The program director will ensure that Play programming serves the purposes of urban youth development, as defined by the guiding principles of Brookside CDC. He/she will see the role as a ministry and pastoring opportunity as they engage and disciple children, parents, and volunteers through gospel-centered curriculum and conversation.
 
Organization Overview:
Brookside Community Development Corporation is a church-based non-profit serving the Brookside neighborhood, located on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis. Brookside CDC serves as the ministry outreach arm of Brookside Community Church, to seek the renewal and transformation of broken people in a poverty-stricken community through the power of the Gospel. Brookside Community Play is the youth development initiative of Brookside CDC, focusing on after school and summertime play-based programming that is designed to instill hope in children and youth, while helping them overcome the effects of childhood trauma.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Program Development:
• Creates program schedules for After School Play (K-6th grade), Summer Play, and Play Camps
• Responsible for the development and implementation of sports, STEM, and arts-based programming, curriculum, enrichment activities, and projects
• Recruits and retains children and youth participants through community and school engagement
• Lead and equip interns, fellows, and part-time staff to facilitate various Play programs
 
Program Operations:
• Coordinates logistics and operations of Play programs including tasks such as:  securing/negotiation location contracts, organizing and ordering program supplies, and creation of programming schedule
• Responsible for guiding program to steward finances wisely through budget management and evaluation
• Responsible for tracking and monitoring program outcomes
 
Volunteer Management:
• Collaborate with Brookside CDC staff to recruit ongoing volunteers for afterschool and summertime programs
• Equip and empower volunteers to minister to children and youth through the creation of informative and engaging training opportunities
• Responsible for the retention of volunteers by creating deep and affirming relationships
• Supporting volunteers and creating a positive service environment
• Works with Brookside CDC staff to ensure all volunteers are appreciated appropriately throughout the year
 
Ministry/Discipleship:
• Minister to children and youth participants through character lessons, navigating behavior issues, and discipleship opportunities
• Minister to parents of participants by developing life-giving relationships and walking through difficult seasons together
• Connecting families with appropriate resources, referrals, and relationships to help them overcome barriers

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required with preference in Education, Social Work, Youth Ministry, or Urban Ministry
• Experience working with urban children and youth
• Prefer experience with trauma-informed care and youth mental health first aid
