The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) organizes and manages the day to day fiscal operations of the agency. The individual in the position is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the organization in accordance with the generally accepted accounting principles as well as financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry.
 
Child Advocates is an organization that was created to represent and protect the best interest of children in Marion County who are victims of abuse and/or neglect. Staff members and community volunteers are part of a legal process that ensures these children receive a safe, permanent home.
 
Responsibilities/Duties
Organize and manage agency finances.
Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization.
Ensure adequate controls are installed and that substantiating documentation is approved and available such that all purchases may pass independent audit.
Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors.
Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization's needs.
Oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization.
Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual analytics on budget vs. actual variances and cash flow.
Prepare, coordinate and assist independent auditor in the annual financial audit of the agency.
Maintain accounts receivable and accounts payable for agency.
Prepare financial reports to funders, court, and board members.
Assist in development of fiscal planning with Chief Executive Officer and board members.
Work in collaboration with the CEO on what is in the best interest of the agency.
Understanding the mission and vision of child Advocates and being able to communicate those values to others.
Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Education/Qualifications/Knowledge:
Bachelor's degree in accounting.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
5 to 7 years of financial experience and management experience with the day-to-day financial operations of an organization of at least 50 staff persons.
Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Experience leading, managing and motivating staff and an ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as Word processing, Excel, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
