The membership manager is responsible for developing, leading and overseeing all elements related to SPJ's chapter-based national membership. 
Reports to: Executive Director

Works closely with: Executive Director and office manager
1. Help oversee the society's strategic plan, specifically as it relates to membership recruitment, retention and communication efforts.
2. Analyze membership statistics and trends (internal and external) to aid in decision making.
3. Maintain the integrity of the member data within the Society's database.
4. Serve as a liaison to the Society's volunteer membership committee.
5. Serve as the expert for the Society's database management software.
6. Maintain regular communication with members and potential members.
7. Develop Web content as necessary.
8. Help develop resources and marketing materials as necessary.
9. Provide support and guidance to the Society's chapters and communities.
10. Oversee SPJ's chapter and community reporting requirements.
11. Guide the chapter and committee reactivation and inquiry processes from inception to activation.
12. Review chapter and community leadership resources (online and printed) and make recommendations for revisions and additions to the materials.
13. Work with regional directors to manage chapter health and recognition program.
14. Oversee process for awarding and tracking chapter delegates.
15. Work with Director of Development and Executive Director to increase membership.
16. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Creative and visionary thinker
2. Demonstrated ability to take initiative
3. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion
4. Strong, demonstrated understanding of social media and emerging technology
5. Excellent written skills
6. Strong interpersonal skills
7. Ability to resolve problems independently
8. At least 2 years of association membership-related experience
9. Experience with a chapter-based association a plus
10. iMIS membership database software experience a plus
11. Occasional night and weekend travel required
