Limited Duration Position: This is a Part-time position based on renewable funds during the 2018-2019 school year.
Martin Luther King Community Center is seeking Youth Workers to supervise and educate students in the 21st Century Community Learning Center for students of James Whitcomb Riley School #43 in IPS.  This is a program funded by the Indiana Department of Education, to provide after school academic enrichment, youth programming and parent engagement activities. 
 
Youth workers are key to providing education supports and ensuring academic success of our students.  We seek high energy individuals who are committed to providing a fun, safe, high energy environment dedicated to learning.  Youth workers help with homework, distribute meals, read out-loud, plan and facilitate group activities, and work to calm students with emotional and behavioral issues at any given time. 
 
Overall Responsibilities
- Working under the supervision of the After-School Site Coordinator will instruct and participate in a variety of physical activities aimed at engaging students in fun, recreational and life-long learning objectives
- Contribute to supportive team atmosphere and shared responsibilities at the Center and School #43.
- Review class material with students by discussing text, working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments
- Supervise children attending the program and promote safety and respect amongst all participants
- Ensure a friendly and supportive atmosphere is maintained by developing appropriate strategies to support children in managing their behavior
- Other duties as assigned
 
Requirements
- Three or more years' experience in positive youth development or related field;
- Bachelor's Degree in social services, education, counseling or related field preferred;
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as a team;
- Experience engaging, directing and encouraging Indianapolis Public Schools students
- Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Submit to criminal history background check and drug screen
- Commitment to mission of MLK Center, while fostering inclusiveness and the values espoused by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
