The Community Initiatives Program Coordinator at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, Inc. provides support for the outreach and engagement efforts between the museum, its residential and commercial business neighbors, and community and statewide stakeholders. The coordinator plans and organizes activities, programs for area residents and other targeted populations to improve their quality of life and engagement with the museum, its exhibits, and programs for family learning and enrichment.
1. Supports Community Initiatives team in building strong, productive, and collaborative working relationships with community based organizations in the surrounding neighborhoods and statewide relative to the Mid-North Promise Program (MNPP), Neighborhood Club, and other community initiatives serving the educational needs of targeted family populations.
2. Plans and coordinates monthly MNPP family workshops, museum events, and other programs for neighborhood residents and other targeted community initiatives populations.
3. Facilitates timely and consistent communication with MNPP families and partner organizations to ensure ongoing engagement and an efficient referral and feedback loop process.
4. Coordinates data collection and data entry to support the tracking and reporting of MNPP metrics and outcomes to museum staff, board, family learning program partners, and the larger community.
5. Assists in recruitment and continued participation of families and children into museum programming, with a focus on the, MNPP Neighborhood Club, and the Access Pass Program.
6. Coordinates and distributes marketing collateral for community initiatives programs, including compilation and assembly of stories about the museum's involvement and the families' learning experiences in the MNPP.
7. Assists with coordination of scholarship application, review, and award process for MNPP recipients.
8. Attends monthly neighborhood association meetings and neighborhood association monthly board meetings, as needed.
9. Provides administrative and clerical support to the community initiatives team, as appropriate.
1. Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience in urban planning, community building, or community development.
2. Two (2) years of experience in successful community outreach/recruitment and program coordination.
3. Proven experience in project management and event coordination.
4. Proven track record of working autonomously with limited oversight and direction. A high level of problem solving, critical thinking, time management and negotiation skills.
5. Ability and willingness to attend a variety of meetings; regular evening and weekend hours as required.
6. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to act as museum representative to the community, work with a diverse group of community residents and leaders, to build consensus.
7. Strong communication skills, verbal and written. Writing samples should be available upon request.
8. Strong computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite and database management.
*Special consideration given to those applicants who are multi-lingual.
1. Required to review documents, contracts, view computer monitor, generate reports, process large volumes of paperwork, transpose meeting minutes and perform general office duties. Must be able to identify staff, youth and other museum visitors.
2. Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, visitors, and neighborhood residents, via, telephone/TDD, one-on-one conversations, public presentations and written correspondence.
3. Requires extensive use of keyboards, calculators, and other administrative equipment. Must be able to process large volumes of paperwork.
4. Must be able to negotiate stairs, sit or stand for extensive periods of time, carry laptop computer and distribute large volumes of paperwork for neighborhood meetings.
5. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. with or without accommodation.
