Indiana Legal Services, Inc., a $10-million civil legal aid non-profit, seeks an individual to lead and manage its financial functions.
Organizational information: ILS provides a full range of free civil legal services to low-income clients in areas such as family, consumer, housing, health, income maintenance, prisoner re-entry, and employment. It serves clients across the state from 8 offices. ILS's $10 million budget is funded by the Legal Services Corporation, the Indiana Civil Legal Aid Fund, United Ways, Area Agencies on Aging and approximately 20 other funding sources.
• Serve as key member of management team of civil legal aid organization dedicated to using legal resources to fight poverty, empower clients, and improve access to justice
• Create and monitor budgets and budget projections for the entire organization as well as programs and projects
• Ensure compliance with funding and grant requirements including proper cost allocation among funding sources
• Work with development staff to manage grant submissions, awards, and reporting requirements
• Perform financial planning including cash flow projections, analysis of operating and reserve fund balances and projections, and long range financial planning
• Oversee preparation of monthly financial statements for Executive Director, board of directors, and management team
• Ensure appropriate financial controls
• Maintain all banking relationships and monitor cash reserves and investments
• Supervise all accounting functions including accounts payable and receivable and payroll
• Oversee purchasing, procurements and contracting, including office leases, business insurance, health insurance, etc.
• Supervise finance staff, currently consisting of 2.5 positions
• Arrange and facilitate all audits and interim work and ensure tax filings
• Other responsibilities as assigned
• Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or related field
• 5-10 years' experience in finance or accounting; supervisory experience and non-profit experience required
• Experience in non-profit cost allocation required
• Proficiency in accounting and payroll software
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; ability to work as a team member
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment while remaining organized and handling multiple responsibilities
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
