Martin Luther King Community Center is looking for a Wellness Coach to join our team to engage families and provide coaching around parenting and healthy relationships.  This position works directly with our Great Families 2020 project and families of IPS School #43, and reports to the Executive Director. 
As a Wellness Coach, a typical day might include the following: 
• Tabling at a local child care partner to talk with parents about signing up for the Great Families 2020 project
• Participating in a peer learning session with other community centers about co-active coaching and the two-generation approach to our work
• Meeting with a parent to follow up on the employment goals you set last week 
• Going to the counseling office with a new mom to meet the counselor and talk about her childhood trauma
• Setting up tables and chairs and food for the weekly parent empowerment session
• Entering data into the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database to document a mom's new job
• Attending the Great Families 2020 Team Meeting to ask for help with a challenging coaching situation you experienced this week
• Contacting a partner organization to see if they provide help with rental assistance
• Finishing a grant report for the Program Director 
• Troubleshooting a disagreement between a parent and her child's school
This job might be for you if:  
• You believe people are creative, resourceful and whole. Everyone experiences emotional trauma, poverty, racism and toxic stress in his and her own way.  With the right support we can all grow and find ways to meet challenges. 
• You have a college degree or certification in a field related to social work, counseling, human services, etc.  
• You can explain just about anything to anyone, and you're comfortable communicating in writing and on the phone.
• You can accept constructive feedback from peers.  This project is an evidence-based program with an intensive data and evaluation component.  It if isn't documented it didn't happen. 
• You like asking questions until you get it right.  You like learning new things, and you can learn quickly.  When things change, you know how to roll with the punches, because we're growing and changing around here, just like our families! 
• You believe team work makes the dream work!  This is a new, multi-faceted project at the MLK Center and it takes all of us to make real change in the world.
• You are motivated and driven.  You volunteer for new challenges without waiting to be asked. You're going to take ownership of the time you spend with us and truly make a difference. 
To be offered this position, you need to have some measurable experience helping parents solve problems that come up in life while they work, run their household and care for themselves and their children.
