  • The hourly wage for this part-time. O.5 FTE position $20 per hour, or an annual salary of $20,800. This is a contract position for an initial 1-year term (January 2 through December 31, 2019), to be extended contingent upon available funding.

Giving Back to Africa (GBA) is a small but mighty non-profit working in DR Congo, with a US office in Bloomington, Indiana. We are at an exciting turning point for our organization, and are seeking a motivated, engaging self-starter with a passion for service to help us identify the capital that will take our programs to the next level.

The Director of Development will be responsible for developing and implementing a robust major donor cultivation strategy, including, but not limited to: cultivating long term relationships with key donor decision makers, leveraging board member fundraising activities, assisting with board recruitment and engagement, planning and implementing major donor and fundraising events, and assisting with grant writing. The Director of Development will become familiar with all aspects of GBA programs and operations, and will be the point person in the absence of the Executive Director. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role will ensure the success of all fundraising campaigns and events, while maintaining and promoting Giving Back to Africa's objectives and mission alongside its Board of Directors.

Giving Back to Africa (GBA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the long-term mission of educating young people in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through partnerships with local Congolese educational institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Our goal is to empower Congolese youth through grassroots community-based, service-centered education to become servant-leaders capable of taking control of their own lives while serving as change agents in their local communities.

Key Expectations:
● Understand and promote GBA mission, objectives and goals
● Work together with the Executive Director and Development Committee in the creation and implementation of a fund development strategy that increases and diversifies revenue streams and distributes fundraising activities throughout the year to ensure consistent capital flow
● Apply and continue to develop knowledge and skills in donor cultivation, including researching best practices and creating and implementing a realistic action plan that leverages both large and small donors
● Provide subject matter expertise to the Board Development Committee; participate in Board and Committee meetings to gather input, seek guidance, and identify opportunities alongside committee members
● Manage and update Salesforce donor database, mailing lists, and donor reports, and MailChimp campaigns
● Research and identify grant opportunities
● Develop scalable partnership and donor models
● Raise our profile throughout Central Indiana and beyond, identifying potential stakeholders that will connect to GBA's mission and vision
● Develop and manage budget, providing regular forecasts and updates to Finance Committee
● Assist Governance Committee with new board member recruitment and board engagement
● Assist Executive Director with grant writing and grant administration as needed
● Refine and assist interns and volunteers with social media campaign, including drafting articles and updates
● Recruit and train volunteers to assist with fundraising events and serve on committees,
● Energetically represent GBA in the community, in the industry, and amongst prospective and current constituents
● Become adept with GBA operations, occasionally assume the role of Acting Executive Director as needed

Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies
An ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in developing and executing multi-pronged fund development strategies
- Ability to brainstorm and develop creative and innovative ideas
- Experience identifying and developing relationships with high-potential donors and organizations
- Experience or interest in international development or education nonprofit work
- Strategic, entrepreneurial mindset; ability to work autonomously to track and manage competing priorities
- Experience in event planning with evidence to show successes in event implementation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with diverse audiences, and across multiple media
- Experience and skills in social media and marketing
- Experience collaborating alongside multiple stakeholders
- Experience in Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, & and InDesign or Photoshop
- Design & copywriting experience is preferred
- Financial management experience is preferred (budgeting, forecasting, basic bookkeeping)
- French language skills are a plus
- While no university degree is required for a candidate with exceptional experience, a university degree is preferred.

Flexible, but candidate must be available to spend at least 25% of work time in the Bloomington, IN office. The ideal candidate is located within 0-2 hours of Bloomington, IN.
