The Director of Development position is responsible for managing and leading the organization's development operations and marketing efforts.  Specifically, this position is primarily responsible for fundraising and development including but not limited to individual, group, corporate, foundation, events/special events and other development efforts aimed at directly and indirectly identifying and cultivating donors, making asks, and educating the community about our mission.  In this role this position will ensure donors are engaged and advanced through the prospect pipeline.  This individual should be passionate and energized about the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Indianapolis and be able to effectively communicate the power of its potential for the youth in our city.  This position must have excellent organization and communication skills both one on one with a diversity of people internal and external to the organization and excellent public speaking skills.  This position will be expected to be both strategic and hands on and be able to see and develop bigger picture/longer term opportunities in conjunction with the CEO to build organizational momentum while also executing the details on a day to day basis.  This position must also work with the CEO to tap into and leverage her strengths and connections to be in touch with our community and the key players influencing our community to stay informed, communicate, engage and be visible/top of mind for donors and potential donors.  Finally, this opportunity is both outward facing and expected to be meeting with and building relationships with key players on a daily and weekly basis, and inward facing and expected to build a strong and competent team to support these efforts.  Other duties may also be assigned.

JOB DESCRIPTION
• Work with the CEO to plan the annual budget and implement resource development strategies to meet and exceed budget goals.
• Develop and implement a resource development plan in conjunction with the CEO, senior management staff and the R&D Team.
• Identify and leverage the relationships and connections of the CEO, BOD, staff, club alumni, friends and past donors of the organizations to strengthen or create strategic partnerships with corporations and businesses in the Indianapolis/Marion County and surrounding areas.
• Provide direction and leadership to establish a marketing and communications plan to cost effectively but aggressively grow the reach and understanding of the organization externally in the community and at the corporate level.
• Maintain clear and appropriate communications with the CEO and Board of Directors, other volunteers and staff members to enable these groups to support the efforts of R&D.
• Prepare clear financial reports and forecasts showing activities and outcomes, including trends and projected time lines for revenue from various sources.
• Coordinate appeal letters, thank you letters and BGCI information correspondence to donors and supporters.
• Prepare public relations and marketing materials for the public and the media.
• Identify and cultivate large individual donors and direct their solicitations.
• Direct efforts to design a program to identify, cultivate and solicit gifts from major individual, corporate and foundation prospects.
• Plan and implement solicitation strategies with CEO and Board to meet budgeted annual giving targets.
• Develop, maintain and increase the donor database to promote major cultivation and solicitation.
• Develop and supervise donor recognition strategies and events.
• Ensure website is updated regularly and communicates up to date information, enables visitors to effectively understand our mission and encourages and makes giving easy.  Website should be aligned with the organization's overall communication strategy.
• Work with the Foundation Giving Manager to identify and apply for new grant opportunities, map out calendar listing all grant applications deadlines, determine accountability/deadlines for grant reporting and to minimize lag of reimbursable grants, and continue to work with team to maintain solid pipeline. 
• Work with team to identify and plan large and small fundraising and cultivation events to advance our mission.  Develop a fundraising/event calendar with goals and expectations (attendance/$) and so board, staff and others could be aware and promote attendance to maximize success.

• Development systems, activities and processes are evaluated, refined, well-defined, implemented and measured
• Comprehensive plan for BGCI's donor segments created, consisting of activity/outreach, event participation, quarterly engagement and results measurement
• Events are successfully executed reaching fundraising and prospect engagement goals establishing strong foundation with long term year over year growth in mind 
• CRM evaluated and optimized
• Contributed revenue streams are balanced and sustainable
• Prospect pipeline defined and results in goal accomplishment and foundation for long term, year over year growth established
• Development goals set and accomplished on a quarterly basis
• Infrastructure strengthened and strong development team hired and meeting goals

RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with CEO, R&D/Marketing Team and Club staff (professional and volunteer).  Maintain contact with Board of Directors and key community volunteers.

External: Maintain potential and current donors, corporate and businesses partners, public relations and marketing professionals and community groups.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
• 5-7 years of resource and business development experience in areas of donor relations, major gift solicitations, grant writing, capital and major gift campaigns.
• Public relations and marketing expertise.
• Proven ability to raise substantial sums of money and meeting agreed upon financial targets.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and control fundraising expenses.
• Excellent management skills and the ability to create and be part of a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Budgeting and computer skills, including knowledge of database operations and spreadsheet software.
