Position Summary
The Director of Donor Relationships and Stewardship will develop and lead a program that ensures donors are acknowledged and recognized for their contributions to WGU. Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement the position will work with Advancement team members and WGU entities to build a comprehensive stewardship plan including the processes and technology needed for efficiency and the ultimate care of its donors.

The program includes donor relations, stewardship, related communications and events. Goals and metrics will be incorporated into the program and aligned with the Advancement's strategic plan.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities 
1. Develops, implements, and leads a successful and integrated donor relations program that strategically targets all levels of giving as defined by the Advancement team
2. Ensures donors are acknowledged and recognized to strengthen their financial support for the University
3. Acts as a liaison and specialist to advancement personnel in order to provide cultivation and stewardship assistance to individual donors and prospects
4. Oversees and directs the development and implementation of strategic communications in multiple mediums in a timely fashion. This will include, but not be limited to, IRS tax forms, social media sites, Annual Report to donors, e-blasts, year-end-reminders, endowment reports, gift acknowledgements, web pages, invitations, newsletter updates, fundraising campaign materials, and press releases.
5. Ensures special events are communicated and on the calendar of appropriate officials and targeted guests
6. Creates innovative programs and projects to thank and steward donors; ensures the external reporting to donors on endowments
7. Manages and coordinates any campaign-related kick-offs and celebration events for donors
8. Tracks donor relations and stewardship activities in the established databases to enhance relationships and increase the likelihood of continued contributions
9. Responsible for the review and control of all gift acknowledgments, including receipts, year-end contribution statements, thank you letters, pledge statements and endowment reports
10. Works closely with Advancement staff to report to donors on the use of gifts, to arrange meetings between donors and beneficiaries if appropriate, and to help celebrate gifts

Required Experience
• 5+ years' experience in donor relations, stewardship or related development programs
• BA degree preferred
• Strong interest in higher education and working with donors
• Familiarity with Salesforce CRM system a plus

Required Skills
• Technical literacy including processes, reports and metrics required for donor relations and stewardship programs and databases
• Communications, excellent writer, editor, proofreader, grammar, spelling and attention to detail, includes business letter writing and clear, concise administrative and technical reports. Social media savvy, understands market segmentation messaging
• Demonstrated ability and experience with project management and program planning
• Relationship builder, networker and partnership oriented
• Must be comfortable dealing with a range of constituents
• Very flexible and helpful; occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed. Some travel, nights and/or weekend work required
