United Way of Central Indiana recognizes that the key to success is a strong and cohesive team that works through shared values to achieve our mission. The Basic Needs Fund Senior Director is a member of our Impact department responsible for leading a team to meet fundraising and community impact goals related to basic needs in our community. This position will be responsible for leading our investment strategy in basic needs, growing our revenue to support basic needs and engaging donors in actions that increase impact and revenue. The Senior Director also manages volunteer governance, ensures effective systems to track results, and communicates widely with internal and external audiences. 

Position Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional team to meet fund goals around fundraising and community impact, while fostering team development and optimizing team fit
• Set and regularly refine a vision for the fund in line with donor interactions, community need, and organizational goals
• Lead investment strategy around basic needs to ensure impact and progress toward fund, organizational, and community impact goals
• Develop strategies to engage donors and potential donors in authentic actions that lead to increased impact and increased revenue
• Expand revenue generation activities in support of fund goals
• Deepen and refine all aspects of communications related to the fund
• Use external presence and relationships to develop cross-sector community partnerships
• Support and manage volunteer governance of the fund
• Ensure effective systems to track progress, evaluate program components, measure success, and initiate quality improvements
• Integrate cross-functional supports from across the organization to meet fund goals
• Performs special assignments and other work, on an as-needed basis

Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. Work experience may substitute for education requirements on a case by case basis.
• At least eight (8) years of experience working in a relevant field, including human services, small business development, or community affairs.
• Experience leading a cross-functional team toward shared goals.
• Experience with fundraising. Experience making the case for support to individual donors preferred.
• Experience with grantmaking and community investments preferred.
• Experience using systems thinking to identify barriers and levers for change.
• Ability to acquire a baseline level of knowledge about UWCI's other strategic priorities so basic needs efforts can both build upon and contribute to the success of other areas.
• Ability to make decisions and advance work with incomplete information and to thrive in an outcomes oriented, continuously evolving work environment.
• Capable of applying adaptive problem-solving skills in response to unforeseen challenges and new assignments.
• Ability to prioritize a wide range of duties and responsibilities, organize tasks, and remain flexible to changing and multiple requests.
• Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate accurately, effectively, and in ways appropriate to different audiences.
• Strong writer, with the ability to review, revise and synthesize a variety of information and help connect UWCI's work to broader discussions within the relevant landscape.
• Ability to work collegially and diplomatically across the organization and audience groups.
Knowledge of the Central Indiana region highly desirable.
