The Coordinator of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a member of the advancement team, reporting directly to the Director of Institutional Advancement, and collaborating with the admissions and development teams, and the Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The Coordinator will work with administrators and community members to foster relationships throughout Indianapolis as we expand our student applicant pool and explore future opportunities to support greater diversity amongst our families. Orchard seeks candidates from the Indianapolis community who possess a passion for equity and social justice, and who are eager to grow personally and professionally in advancement work. This is a 10-month position that runs concurrent with the faculty instructional calendar.

Founded in 1922, Orchard is an independent, non-sectarian, Progressive school for 550 students in preschool through the 8th grade. Orchard is committed to advance each student's academic success, self-confidence, open-mindedness, ethical character, leadership, and love of learning. Located in north Indianapolis on a 43- acre wooded campus with a state-of-the-art facility, Orchard promises academic excellence through a well-rounded education, engaging the natural curiosity of students in an active, child-centered, and experiential learning environment. Particular domains of responsibility include:
• Development and Admissions Work
o Collaborating with the admissions team to help build a more diverse student applicant pool
o Building relationships with local school and community groups to find opportunities for collaboration
o Actively seeking additional funding opportunities outside of Orchard to help support and increase the socio-economic diversity of our families
• Community Outreach
o Actively cultivate relationships with non-profits, educational programs, and other organizations in Indianapolis that share Orchard's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Professional Development
o Attend the NAIS People of Color Conference and other diversity workshops and conferences on a regular basis in order to stay current in innovative diversity and inclusion work.
o Maintain active local networks amongst educational leaders and organizations.
o Seek out professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
• Other Responsibilities
o Attend and present at open houses and school events to educate our community about Orchard's ongoing work around diversity, equity, and inclusion.
o Attend the Board of Trustees Diversity Committee meetings.
Required Qualifications and Attributes
• Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
• Demonstrated passion and proactive work for diversity, equity, and inclusion within a non-profit and/or educational setting
• Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with colleagues, parents and students
• Capacity to strive for unity, harmony and cooperation through empathy, respect, tact, helpfulness and recognition of individual differences
• Capacity for team building, and to lead and inspire others
• Passion for the mission and the vision of The Orchard School
• Thoughtful judgment and effective interpersonal skills
• Excellent communication skills
Part-time: This position will require 20-25 hours per week, largely Monday through Friday throughout the academic school year. The role will also require occasional weekend and evening hours to support admissions and development activities.
