Location: Library Services Center
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Schedule: Typically Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, occasional evening and/or weekend hours as needed

The Director, Communications develops and implements comprehensive and strategic initiatives in the areas of both internal and external communications, media and public relations, public information, public awareness campaigns, marketing strategies in accordance with the Library's mission and goals; serves as a member of Library's Executive Committee.

A successful candidate will:
• Have a Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or other related field.
• Have a minimum of 9 years of relevant work experience.
• Have excellent presentation/public speaking skills and the ability to work well with other departments.
• Possess a valid driver's license, a safe driving record, and proof of insurance.
• Be bilingual (preferred but not required).

What does the job look like?
• Works in partnership with internal staff and departments to create, promote and support the information and communication needs within the library system.
• Develops and implements broad spectrum of communication strategies both internally and externally ensuring provision of timely and accurate information about the role of the Library in assisting the community. Serves as departmental spokesperson in collaboration with other area/departmental subject matter expert staff to create and support communications needs.
• Oversees development/maintenance of timely, effective, and accurate print and e-communication modalities leveraging IndyPL website, video, social media platforms, digital signage and beyond focusing on content, aesthetics, and timeliness.
• Leads efforts within IndyPL to enhance external relations with an eye toward strategic and proactive approaches to public/community, media, and partner engagement activities coordination with other areas of the department.
• Develops sound, timely and innovative strategies to ensure public relations including press conferences, media interviews, public information requests, etc', are handled seamlessly and effectively.
• Leads the development of implementation plans, execution of initiatives, including area goalsJ metrics and evaluation of the Communications office in aligning with the overall organizational strategic efforts.
• Responsible for hiring, supervision, development and performance management of
staff to ensure qualified, competent workforce, and oversee utilization/quality of work of staff.
