The ideal Manager of Guest Experience is an individual with outstanding knowledge and keen intuition of front-line operations at Newfields. This position is a cross-trained management position responsible for the frontline guest relationship throughout Newfields 152 acre campus. This position is responsible for managing the guest experience from beginning to end ensuring that all aspects of campus are providing the best possible guest, volunteer, and staff engagement imaginable.

Primary Responsibilities:
The following responsibilities describe the general nature of work for employees in this position, but this is not intended as an exclusive or all - inclusive inventory.
 
▪ Lead by example; Newfields Guest Experience standards and implementation of the Newfields Guest Experience Model.
▪ Be an informational resource for answering questions on memberships, programs, exhibitions, events, policies, gardens, and buildings at Newfields.  
▪ Supervising daily campus operations in partnership with the Manager of Volunteerism including all guest, volunteer, and staff engagement.
▪ In depth knowledge of Newfields Access Initiatives including staff and volunteer training on how the institution provides discount and free admission to guests who meet certain criteria throughout the year.
▪ Capturing and resolving customer feedback elevated by all front line staff.
▪ Hiring, training, and daily management of volunteers and staff.
▪ Daily break coverage for volunteers and staff.
▪ Consultation on guest experience design, staffing, and planning processes. 
 
Professional Responsibilities
▪ Actively work within the Indianapolis and surrounding community to recruit staff through outreach opportunities and attend local job fairs and other recruitment opportunities. 
▪ Work with the Manager of Volunteerism to develop a strategic plan for deploying volunteers by matching existing institution needs with volunteer skill sets. 
▪ Plan well in advance for large events such as Family Days, MLK Day, as well as Newfields Seasonal Initiatives (Spring Blooms, Summer, Harvest, and Winterlights). Work with the Manager of Volunteerism to recruit, train, and schedule all volunteers to perform specific tasks for these types of events in coordination and partnership with all departments. Attend the events and work with other departments to adjust the staffing plan according to needs and feedback from guests, volunteers, and staff. 
▪ Continue to develop, improve, and implement an onboarding process for all Newfields staff, appropriate to the jobs they are asked to perform. This will include volunteer management training for all positions including a basic onboarding training and continuing education on volunteer engagement.
▪ Work with Director of Guest Experience, Volunteerism, and Community Engagement to plan and execute the staff recognition program striving to increase staff morale. This will include ongoing appreciation activities throughout the year.  
 
Budgetary Responsibilities
▪ Work with the Director of Guest Experience, Volunteerism, and Community Engagement to define appropriate budget items and maintain expense annually within the established budget.
▪ Oversee accounting and reporting functions for Guest Experience.     Supervisory Responsibilities
▪ Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining staff; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
▪ Work to realize the full potential of Newfields staff while creating meaningful art and nature experiences for the diverse communities Newfields serves. 
▪ Expand the regular, ongoing opportunities for staff to experience Newfields offerings (i.e. audience engagement, docent and curator led tours).
▪ Create a culture of customer service within the department's staff. 
▪ Provide motivation and incentives in order to increase staff attendance and participation in training sessions.
▪ Maintain and analyze staff contributions to Newfields.
 
Basic work week: 37.5 hours per week, schedule fluctuates based upon the needs of the institution, some weekends and holidays required
 
Required Skills:
▪ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  
▪ Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  
▪ Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of top management, public groups, and internal/external customers.
▪ Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Clear spoken communication skills.
▪ Basic computer skills and a pleasant attitude when interacting with visitors
▪ Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
▪ Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  
▪ Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
 
Education and/or Experience:
▪ Bachelor's degree and five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Recruiting experience and/or HR experience a plus.
