The Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation strives to advance the vitality of Indianapolis and the well-being of its people by addressing the city's most significant challenges and opportunities. The Foundation is focused on three issue-areas: education, tobacco and opioid addiction, and the life-sciences. To advance its work, the Foundation implements a three-pronged approach: strategic grantmaking, evidence-based advocacy, and cross-sector collaborations and convenings. The Foundation seeks an experienced, collaborative and strategic professional who will support the continued evolution of the institution by conducting and coordinating research and analytic support that informs new grantmaking decisions as well as ongoing program evaluation. This individual will identify compelling research opportunities and conduct independent research or coordinate the research work of third-party experts. This professional will partner with program staff to screen grant proposals by identifying positive links to the Foundation's priorities and collect data useful for measuring impact and guiding funding strategies. Working with the President & CEO, Vice President of Programs and program staff, the Director will ensure that the Foundation's work is designed to positively impact the community.
• Master's degree in economics, statistics, public administration, data sciences, or public policy.  PhD degree in relevant field strongly preferred. 
• Experience initiating and conducting independent quantitative and qualitative research.
• Experience in project management, including managing consultants, developing and managing project budgets, and monitoring and evaluation of results. 
• Track record of identifying concrete ways to use data and evaluation to improve programs and policies.
• Strong entrepreneurial mindset, with a passion for creating opportunities and defining new functions.
• Ability to switch between strategic and practical thinking, with exceptional qualitative and quantitative analytic skills.
• Passion for learning, problem solving, distilling lessons and turning them into action.
• High tolerance for ambiguity and ability to thrive in an environment of growth and change. 
• Demonstrated ability to effectively participate in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Experience in convening individuals and groups to work on collaborative projects.
• Ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines, and support others in doing the same.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work under tight deadlines.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to make complex research understandable and relevant to external audiences.
