Hours:  Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. (unless otherwise specified)
Reports to:  Head of Middle School
Position Summary:
Sycamore School seeks an experienced Spanish teacher for its middle school students
(5th - 8th grade) for the 2019-2020 school year.  In this position you will be called upon to help build the foreign language program in an innovative way.  Essential functions for this position include the following:

Curriculum Work
Update the curriculum map for Spanish and ensure that it meets both departmental
objectives and student needs (minimum goal of students placing into Honors Spanish 3
during their freshman year of high school).
Develop lesson plans inspired by the curriculum map

Student Interactions
Lead classroom discussions with students.
Serve as co-teacher with 4th grade students as needed.
Supervise students both in and outside of the classroom.
Create assignments, quizzes, and tests to measure students' understanding and mastery of the Spanish language (written and spoken).
Provide feedback to students by answering questions, grading assignments/quizzes/tests and completing report cards.

Parent Communication
Respond to parent questions, comments, and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Participate in parent conferences throughout the year.
Update individual Parent Portal page, blog, and calendar regularly.

Professional Development
Stay current in teaching strategies and developments in foreign language education
Meet with division head through the academic year for assessment, planning, etc.
Participate in the faculty evaluation cycle to establish a framework to foster professional growth.
Attend and contribute to grade level, departmental, and divisional meetings.
Participate in professional development days throughout the school year.

Non-teaching Responsibilities
Supervise students outside of regular classroom time (study hall, hallways, parties, etc.).
Manage carpool drop-off or pick-up as needed.
Serve on school-wide committees if invited.

Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (focus in Spanish and Education)
Lead teaching experience
Experience in and knowledge of the field of gifted education preferred
Desire to work with high ability, middle school students
Familiarity with middle school learners
Understanding of and ability to differentiate curriculum, especially with gifted students
Ability to write, develop, and implement lesson plans for gifted learners
Strong writing skills
Experience working collaboratively with colleagues
Ability to develop positive relationships with parents
