The Volunteer & Communications Coordinator will provide primary support to the Marketing & Development Team.  The Coordinator will assist, coordinate and support related department functions and programs in the areas of traditional and social media marketing and promotions, public relations, volunteer and donor management, fund development and event coordination. 

Essential Duties
• Develops opportunities for the organization to increase capacity and value of services through volunteerism, then recruits the required volunteers and manages the logistics of the volunteer experience.
• Responsible to support the tactical execution of the organization's volunteer development including engagement strategies working closely with the Chief Marketing & Development Officer.

• Recruits and develops volunteers with a wide range of skills as well as volunteer opportunities within the organization that effectively utilize those skills.
• Effectively matches the skills, abilities and time availability of volunteers as well as coordinating and supervising the volunteers or working with site staff to assure appropriate supervision and positive volunteer experience.
• Regularly assesses the organization's internal needs for volunteer assistance and recommends the most efficient use of volunteers to support those needs and opportunities.
• Follows and contributes to the development of volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service while maintaining appropriate volunteer position descriptions and appropriate tracking and reporting of volunteer utilization statistics.
• Stays abreast of trends in volunteerism and develops and maintains relationships with other volunteer organizations.
• Responsible for creating a positive volunteer experience for current and prospective volunteers, including volunteer recognition and evaluation.
• Establish and maintain connections with other community organizations and relevant contracts.
• Develops and maintains inventory of marketing tools and materials.
• Work with the marketing team to create the content and manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic materials including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, social media and website.
• Manage all media contacts.
• Work with CMDO and other members of leadership to achieve organizational goals and objectives by administering the communications and public relations initiatives as determined by the larger strategic plan.
• Develop a significant media presence.  Prepare press releases and formal statements; coordinate press events.
• Manage and maintain a variety of databases for marketing, development, donor relations and events.
    o Bloomerang, Constant Contact, Sharepoint, donor relations & grant activities, for example.
• Assist the CMDO in managing the grant funding and research calendar.

Essential General Duties
A. Promotes the mission of the agency.
B. Uses common sense judgment where necessary as applies to Moral, Legal, and Ethical codes.  (Immoral or illegal acts as described by law will not be tolerated.)
C. Attends all required trainings, actively participate with a successful outcome in each of the required in-service trainings.
D. Maintains reasonable and functional attendance, including physical presence at worksite when required.
E. Meets all aspects of the Employee Handbook and Policy Manual.
F. Performs all other duties as required.

Qualifications
(The following statements represent the minimum experience and training standards which will be used to screen applicants, provided that equivalent substitutions will be permitted in case of deficiencies in either experience or education.)

Required:
A. Bachelor's degree or demonstrated equivalent experience and competency in business, non-profits, or public affairs.
B. Two or more years' experience in volunteer administration and fundraising or similar fields with clear transferrable skills and competencies.
C. Demonstrated strong verbal, interpersonal and organizational skills.
D. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize work, and perform duties with limited oversight.
E. Demonstrated strong computer skills in multiple office and productivity programs.
F. Possess exceptional writing, editing and communication skills.
G. Ability to assist in grant writing.
H. Ability to speak, hear, and read the English language.
I. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
J. Skilled as a relationship manager who engages in ongoing activities to steward donors and volunteers.

Preferred:
K. Research experience is a plus.
