For nearly 100 years, Hawthorne Community Center (HCC) has been a trusted social services provider on Indianapolis' west side. The Executive Director role is an exciting opportunity, focused on assuring the long-term success of a close-knit neighborhood, and one perfectly suited for a confident and creative nonprofit leader looking for his or her next big career challenge.

HCC, "The Heart of the Community," was formed in 1923 by a group of 50 neighborhood residents hoping to prevent a small plot of land from becoming a railroad coal dump. Today, HCC is headquartered in a beautiful, recently renovated facility and offers programming serving hundreds of people through three distinct divisions: Adult and Family Services, which includes the Center for Working Families and senior services; Youth, which offers year-round programs from early childhood through high school; and Community Development, which focuses on neighborhood engagement and economic development.

The next Executive Director, working alongside a forward-looking board, dedicated staff and a host of collaborative partners, will provide strategic clarity and day-to-day oversight for the organization. The board is seeking a leader who can build on the organization's recent efforts to review and refine the right mix of services and match it to the funding available. Effective relationship-building and serving as the trusted "face of the organization" will be critical. He or she must be committed to developing strong working relationships with staff and board, neighborhood clients and a variety of partners throughout Indianapolis. Other major responsibilities include fundraising and staff development.

The ideal candidate will be a high-energy, well-organized and results-driven professional who is passionate about helping people as well as committed to social change and alleviating poverty. He or she must be attuned to the needs of the community and consumers and able to bring together and inspire people to achieve great things.

Candidates should have a bachelor's degree (master's degree highly preferred) in Social Work, Business, Nonprofit Management or a similar field as well as at least five years' experience in a leadership role, including demonstrated success in staff supervision and financial oversight. Nonprofit experience, including fund development, is preferred. Knowledge of, and experience working with Indianapolis' funders, business community and service providers highly desirable.
