The Urban Tech Career Coach will provide direct career coaching services to Urban Tech Jobs Program (UTJP) and Workforce Development participants.  Assists with facilitating monthly work readiness workshops and administers career assessments; conducts job search skills and mock interviewing workshops; assists participants with creating resumes, cover letters, assists with developing IT and other industry specific hiring initiatives, ensures that UTJP participants meet hiring requirements for specific IT positions; assist with placing program participants into IT and local employment opportunities;  and network in public and private sectors to promote UTJP awareness.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Communicates with public via email and/or telephone about UTJP and other Workforce Development program opportunities;
• Identifies employment barriers and makes appropriate referrals to CWF Income and Support Coach to eliminate barriers;
• Confirms and documents job placements and retention, and provides data monthly to Vice President of Programs;
• Enters all job placements and retention into ETO and Urban Tech PDM databases;
• Works closely with CWF Career Coach to manage current Workforce Development caseload, document and report non-compliance issues to Vice President of Programs;
• Assists participants with developing short and long-term goals, and updating Individual Professional Plans (IPP) monthly;
• Works closely with IUL Training Works Coordinator to confirm training enrollment, completion and credential attainment to begin assisting with job placement upon training completion;
• Works closely with Urban Tech Job & Externship Coordinator to confirm externship  enrollment and completion to begin assisting with job placement upon externship completion;
• Works closely with Urban Tech Job & Externship Coordinator to determine industry trends, specifically IT, and employer needs and expectations and communicates to program participants;
• Provides job search techniques and labor market information during monthly work readiness workshops;
• Conducts employment site visits to provide employer and program participant with retention services;
• Counsels program participants on various interview techniques;
• Provide IT job leads via email and telephone, including text messaging;
• Assists with career fairs and IUL Speed Interviews;
• Develops and manages resume writing workshops monthly for current Workforce Development program participants;
• Assists with scheduling interviews and provide retention services to UTJP and Workforce Development program participants and employers;
• Conduct monthly follow-up with UTJP and Workforce Development program participants;
• Monitors lower level Empowerment Zone space, computer lab usage, and ensures computers are working properly;
• Attend workshops, seminars  or conferences annually to further enhance skills, knowledge and capacity as a Workforce Development Professional; and
• Carry out other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) preferred from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Knowledge of Spanish desirable but not required.
 
READING/COMPREHENSION SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group and large group situations to customers and clients.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
