The Director, Finance and Administration is a member of the senior management team and a hands-on and participative manager who will lead and develop an internal team to support the following areas:  Finance, Business Planning and Budgeting. The position also serves as a liaison to Simon Corporate areas of Human Resources, Administration, and Information Technology.

Organization Overview:
Simon Youth Foundation (SYF), a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Indianapolis, is committed to helping students graduate. SYF executes its mission through two major programs.

Each year, SYF awards more than $1 million in one-time and renewable Simon Youth Scholarshipsto high school students in every community that is home to a Simon Mall. SYF has awarded over $18 million in scholarships to more than 5,200 students since 1998.

In partnership with local public school districts, SYF builds high schools called  Simon Youth Academies, through which students at risk of dropping out receive the personalized support needed to earn their diplomas. Primarily located in Simon Malls, Simon Youth Academies make learning accessible to students who struggle to connect with material in a traditional classroom or school because of homelessness, bullying, serious illness, parenthood, supporting their families, or other challenging personal circumstances. Since its inception, SYF has maintained a 90 percent graduation rate at its 37 Simon Youth Academies in 15 states, helping more than 19,850 students graduate.

Position Duties:
•        Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program, and grants accounting.
•        Lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the Finance Committee and Investment Committee of the Board of Directors; assess any changes necessary.
•        Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting, while providing timely and accurate financial reports.
•        Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/ reporting system; ensure proscribed contract billing and collection schedule and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
•        Update, implement, and monitor all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve Simon Youth Foundation's overall policy and procedure database.
•        Communicate critical financial matters to Foundation staff and Board of Directors.

Business Planning and Budgeting
•        Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the CEO
•        Administer and review all financial plans and budgets
•        Monitor progress and changes, then report on the Foundation's financial status to the senior leadership team.

•        Work closely and transparently with all external partners including Simon Property Group third-party vendors and consultants.
•        Oversee administrative functions as well as facilities to ensure efficient and consistent operation as the organization scales.

Problem Solving
•        Strive for constant improvement of quality of all internal and external processes in order increase the Foundation's efficiency and efficacy.
•        Negotiate issues related to academy closures and transfer of assets.
•        Reconcile variances between the General Ledger and the Donor Database
•        Reconcile variances between the General Ledger, Bank Accounts and Investment Accounts
•        Reconcile academy build-out projects to budget
Information Technology
•        Act as liaison to Simon's Information Services department for all technology issues.

Position Qualifications:
•        Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
•        Masters of Business Administration preferred.
•        Certified Public Accountant status preferred.
•        Minimum ten years of professional experience; including minimum five years of broad financial and operations management at a nonprofit organization preferred.
•        Experience as Chief Financial Officer or Controller role at a national nonprofit organization preferred.
•        Experience in management of public and private grants, preferred.
•        Experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting and audit coordination for either a division or significant program area, and has preferably overseen a human resources function previously.
