POSITION OVERVIEW: 
The Executive Director is responsible for overall management and operation of the nonprofit organization.  The Executive Director is responsible for implementation of policies set by the Accrediting Organization and the Board of Directors as well as annual goals and objectives, program and administrative management, and protection of the nonprofit organization's financial assets while ensuring compliance with the Board directives and grantor requirements.  Guidance and direction is provided by the Chairman of the Board and by the Board Executive Committee.

REPORTS TO:  The Board of Directors

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Plan:
• In Partnership with the Board of Directors, leads the development and implementation of the organizational strategic plan.
• Assures that long-range strategy which advances the mission and toward which the organization makes consistent and timely progress.
• Provides overall leadership of staff.
• Develops and implements short- and long-range plans and policies as well as sets behavioral expectations for staff aligned with the strategic plan.
• Works with Board and staff to create appropriate outcome measures and data management systems.
• Identifies benchmark, targeted performance levels, and KPIs and takes action to achieve targeted outcomes.

Board Functions:
• Provides support for all activities associated with the Board of Directors, including meeting schedules, locations, development of agenda, meeting materials, and staffing for all Board and Subcommittee meetings.
• Provides advice and counsel to the Board to assist in setting policies and monitoring organizational performance.
• With the Board of Directors, recruits new Board members with the skills needed to further organizational goals.

Management Functions:
• Responsible for the overall operation including implementing goals and activities in furtherance of the strategic plan, reviewing and evaluating the results of program activities, ensuring that continuing contractual obligations are being fulfilled, allocating resources for greater program effectiveness and efficiency, developing organizational and administrative policies and program objectives.
• Responsible for supervision of all managers/directors.
• Monitors and evaluates all services provided and reports progress to the Board and committees; makes recommendations for change as needed.
• Provides oversight and guidance to managers/directors around design, marketing, promotion, delivery, and quality of programs, products, and services.
• Serves as the public face of the organization assuring the organization and its mission, programs, products, and services are consistently presented in a strong and positive image to relevant stakeholders.
• Maintains official records and documents ensuring compliance with the industry Accreditation Organization, federal, state, and local regulations.
• Stays current with significant developments and trends in the field and proactively addresses business needs to successfully navigate industry changes.
• Protects the organization's legal interests and maintains its operations within the law.
• Retains and works with outside counsel to obtain opinions or handle any claims and litigation.
• Engages leadership at all levels to ensure continuous improvement and, where appropriate, leads process improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and effectiveness organization wide.

Financial Management:
• Responsible for the organization's financial management.
• Develops and maintains sound financial practices providing the appropriate control and accountability of all funds, physical assets, and other property.
• Ensures that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.
• Approves all expenditures and signs checks on behalf of the organization.
• Reviews current practices and methods and initiates development of new ones as necessary to reduce costs, encourage growth, and improve efficiency.

Advancement and Growth:
• Monitors the industry landscape for any opportunities or threats to the organization.
• Reviews and analyzes statistics using results to improve and expand services.
• Develops long-term relationships with area hospital administration and medical staff in advancement of the organization, networking and negotiating contract with hospitals.
• Responsible for identifying and capturing as well as enhancing existing new opportunities for revenue and business development.
• Provides leadership for the development and implementation of new marketing strategies and organizational units to meet the Board's growth objectives.
• Represents the organization in its business relationships with the community, media, community organizations, suppliers, competitors, professional organizations, and other related groups.

Development:
• Cultivates a donor base and plays an active role in soliciting corporate and private donations.
• Identifies, cultivates, and solicits major and planned gifts.
• Develops relationships with foundations, corporations, individuals, and community organizations.
• Manages and coordinates volunteer and professional relationships in support of the organization's events, major/planned gift fundraising activities, and an annual campaign.
• Meets with community members and organizations to tell the organization's story and gain financial support.
• Any other duties as assigned.

Travel:  Occasional travel including overnight stays.

BEST Requirements to be considered for this role:

Education
• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Development, Nonprofit Management, Philanthropic Studies, Public Administration, or related technical degree from a regionally accredited college or university required.
 
Experience/Knowledge
• Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in an administrative role required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience required.
• Extensive knowledge of nonprofit management and experience working with a nonprofit Board of Directors required.
• Prior experience in fundraising, grant proposal writing, and foundation relations required.
• Prior experience leading or participating in the strategic planning process required.
• Strong financial and business acumen required.
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical skills required.
• Highly effective written and verbal communication skills required.
• Minimum of Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States for any employer.

Certifications/Licenses/Registration
The following certifications are preferred but not required:
• Certificate in Nonprofit Management
• PCQI (Preventative Controls Qualified Individual)
• Six Sigma or LEAN Six Sigma, Green or Black Belt
• Kaizen

BEST Qualifications for Success in this role:
• Master's degree. MBA, or MPA preferred.
• Prior experience in the healthcare industry preferred; clinical or research background a plus.
• Able to communicate effectively with multiple audiences using a variety of formats preferred.
• Prior experience with lactation, pasteurization, and Good Manufacturing Principals (GMP) preferred.
• Strong connection to the community preferred.
• Demonstrated excellence in organizational development, interpersonal, administrative, and personal management skills preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to influence others through inspiring a shared vision preferred.
