The Chief Communications Officer plays a key role in advancing the mission of the Foundation through working collaboratively with the Leadership Team, staff and Board of Directors to achieve the Foundation's strategic plan and annual business plans while affirming and modeling the desired culture.

Reporting to, and in partnership with the President and CEO, the Chief Communications Officer provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the Foundation has the appropriate strategies in place to effectively grow our fundraising. The position accomplishes this through a respectful, constructive and energetic style guided by the Foundation's vision, mission and values. This position oversees communications, digital strategy, donor engagement, and events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Expectations for All Managers
Working closely with the President/CEO and the Leadership Team, follow the practices and use the tools to:
• Develop and Influence the Our Riley Community Culture: Realize the importance of you as a manager, modeling and influencing the Our Riley Community culture. Exhibit trust, innovation and compassion.
• Lead the Way and Be Accountable: Manage staff in planning and organizing projects. Develop goals and accountabilities. Follow Foundation performance management practices and meet Human Resources deadlines. Model the way.
• Hire the Best: Have up-to-date job descriptions for all direct reports. Follow Foundation hiring practices. Prepare and participate in new employee orientation.
• Guide Your Staff: Set clear expectations and high standards of performance. Provide training, coaching, feedback and corrective action when necessary.
• Engage Your Staff: Be approachable to direct reports and others. Use forms of recognition to thank employees within your team and across the Foundation. Collaborate across the Foundation.
• Create a Best Practice Operation: Stay up-to-date on best practices. Effectively allocate resources. Manage budget as necessary. Establish metrics to minimize costs and maximize impact.
• Manager Training: Actively participate in all Manager Briefings and use the skills and behaviors identified.

2. Expectations for Leadership Team
• Mentor and Coach: Lead, guide, direct and evaluate the work of other managers and individual contributors.
• Strategic Plan: Formulate and implement the strategic plan that guides the Foundation.
• Results: Achieve the Foundation's annual and strategic goals.
• Operations: Oversee the complete operation of your area of responsibility in accordance with the direction established in the strategic plan.
• Evaluation: Evaluate the success of the Foundation.
• Competitive Landscape: Maintain awareness of both external and internal competitive landscape, opportunities, donors, markets and new industry developments and standards.
3. Communications & Marketing
• Communications Strategy: Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance Riley Children's Foundation programs and priorities, and increase the visibility of our programs across key stakeholder audiences. Oversee the planning, development and execution of the Foundation's marketing and advertising initiatives. Ensures that the Foundation's message is distributed across channels and to targeted audiences to meet fundraising goals.
• Leadership: Lead communications activities that promote, enhance and protect the organization, including, but not limited to: newsletters and other print publications; web and other online communications; media and public relations; direct mail.
• Brand: Create and propagate an enthusiastic brand message that will resonate with our prospects, donors and staff.
• Outside contracts: Negotiate compensation and project details for outside contractors related to marketing and promotions.
• Results: Set and achieve strategic goals related to social media metrics, television advertising and marketing campaign initiatives.
• Writing: Create major gift proposals, including those for transformative gift opportunities.

4. Digital Strategy
• Strategy: Setting the strategy to reach the right audience with the right message at the right time through all fundraising systems including the CRM, peer-to-peer and CMS platforms.
• Leadership: Oversee the Foundation's digital communications strategy and online user experience working with the Digital Strategy Manager.
• Results: Success will be measured through identifying and monitoring key performance metrics to ensure success and growth.

5. Donor Engagement
• Strategy: Responsible for overseeing a strategic approach to inspire donors to remain loyal longer and give more generously.
• Leadership: Oversee all donor engagement and donor relations strategies and initiatives working with the Manager, Donor Engagement.
• Donor Engagement and Commitment: Deepen the engagement and commitment of donors to Riley Children's Foundation to meet and exceed fundraising goals.

6. Events
• Strategy: Lead the organization's approach to RCF sponsored events working with the Event Planner and Producer. Ensure that the Riley brand is evident in every event.
• Leadership: Provide direction to ensure that signature events are executed at the highest level, on time and on budget.

7. Administrative
• Administrative: Maintain accountability to administrative systems and procedures including submitting expense reimbursements, credit card reconciliations, invoices, reports, RCF calendar additions, etc., by the deadlines assigned.
• Meetings: Prepare for and actively participate in all Riley Children's Foundation meetings as appropriate. Ensure expectations and tools for meeting agendas and follow-up are implemented.
• Budget: Develop, manage and monitor the budget, staying within overall budget guidelines.
• Technology: Understand and effectively use the technology available at the Riley Children's Foundation.
• Compliance: Work closely with the Leadership Team to ensure strict compliance with bylaws, federal laws and regulations governing 501(c)(3) transactions, donor expectations and agreements and with Riley Children's Foundation Board of Governors' policies and procedures.

8. Other Duties as Assigned
• Riley Children's Foundation events: Participate in Riley Children's Foundation Events as requested.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
• Education: Graduate degree preferred. Bachelor's degree required.
• Experience: Minimum 10-15 years' organization-wide leadership and management experience.
• Skills: Creative, analytical and problem solving capabilities. A visionary. Superior management skills (ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers). Outstanding communication (writing, editing, verbal and presentation) and interpersonal abilities. Strong leadership, project development and business acumen. Strong bias to action. Ability to handle multiple projects and quickly "change gears" as needed. Excellent judgment. Presence and confidence to project credibility to donors and peers. Self-reliant. Attention to detail and organization.
• Qualities: Personal belief in Riley Children's Foundation vision, mission, core values and strategic direction. Results oriented. Ability to work independently under pressure and effectively prioritize a varied and diverse workload. Creative and resourceful. Inquisitive and sharp minded coupled with demonstrated aptitude for strategic donor or customer experience strategy. Self-motivating and self-starting. Ability to take quiet pride in one's work. Perseverance. Highly energetic. Optimistic and positive. Team player. Must adhere to the highest ethical standards. Professional demeanor. Microsoft Office products with a key focus on Word, Excel and Outlook; experience with SharePoint is a plus.
