Under general supervision to function as an integral and supportive member of the Victim Advocacy multi-disciplinary team, to serve as an advocate with senior knowledge advising other staff as needed, and to perform related work as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics
A position in this class is distinguished from positions in the next lower class of Victim Advocate in that The Senior Victim Advocate is a full journey level class that is responsible for handling advance, complex issues that arise in the operation of the Victim Advocacy / Criminal Justice Program, and serves as a resource for other Advocates as needed. Assists the Advocacy Manager ensuring strong communication with the Advocacy Manager, to maintain the operation of the program.  Integral in providing input toward policy and protocol shaping by communicating well with the Advocacy Manager.  Integral in assisting with the shaping of the overall agency culture by having discussions and ultimately honoring and respecting policy and protocol decisions.
The Senior Victim Advocate reports to the Advocacy Manager, and is responsible to provide supportive services including: crisis intervention, information, and appropriate case management services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and to their family members, as needed.  This position assists both adult and child victims in domestic violence and sexual assault cases.  The Senior Victim Advocate serves as an informed source of support to the victim during the immediate crisis and works closely with various community organizations and legal services to successfully support the victim and Beacon of Hope's programs. It is the responsibility of the Senior Victim Advocate to state various views, sometimes opposing and sometimes in support and invite productive discussion to assist the Advocacy Manager with good policy shaping for the issues at hand and forward trajectory of decisions for the agency.  Ensure that opposing views are not vented or expressed in frustration to staff; pursue healthy discussion as creative counterparts to shape the vision and provide quality direct service to clients.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Continued education and training as needed to ensure BOHCC is following the most current laws in the areas of victim services/advocacy (education and training services include general awareness presentations; young adult dating violence prevention; workplace violence; healthcare; clergy and certified law enforcement training in domestic violence topics).
• Developing and implementing victim services and educational programs, and assisting program staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization.
• Provide or refer victims for Emergency support services, including:
• Emergency financial assistance: - for food, clothing or other items related to breaking free from abuse
• Emergency and essential transportation assistance – to safe shelter or essential appointments to becoming self-sufficient
• Provide or refer victims for necessary counseling and/or other professional services, including:
• Medical/Dental advocacy – assisting in locating necessary medical/dental for injuries related to domestic violence
• Personal advocacy – including securing rights, remedies and services from other agencies
• Victim Compensation Assistance/Advocacy
• Communication with leadership and peers to understand and support victim needs, while continually supporting all BOHCC initiatives
• Support and expand on existing programs with services of volunteers, including:
  o Safety Planning
  o Crisis intervention services and emotional support (including phone or in person)
  o Life Skills Training/Economic Self Sufficiency Training
  o Pet Safety Assistance
• Assist leadership and CEO with public outreach events related to domestic violence, victim advocacy, and BOHCC services as requested.
• Court accompaniment and emergency assistance in filing protective orders.
• On-going maintenance of data/databases and records as necessary.
• Assist with gathering of supportive documents necessary for reporting deadlines.  Create monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required by program funding sources.
• Participate in overseeing the supervision of the training for crisis operators as related to the victim advocacy.
• Attend all staff meetings.

General Responsibilities:
Any staff member of Beacon of Hope Crisis Center will be responsible to support other staff and volunteers as needed, including cleanliness and care of the workspace and supporting other areas whenever possible.
BS degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Criminology or related field.  2-3 years of victim advocate experience.  Valid Indiana driver's license and reliable transportation.  Must have professional experience with the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Qualified candidates with experience in public speaking, training, and volunteer recruitment in diverse populations are desired. Applicant must have excellent written, verbal and computer skills; must be a self-starter; to reach and work with a wide diverse population; be able to respect confidentiality of the work that is performed at Beacon of Hope; have good record-keeping skills; and able to multi-task to handle multiple various projects.

Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply, but this is not a requirement of the position. Must be able to adhere to strict standards of confidentiality and successful clearance of a criminal background check. Must have a thorough understanding of: the criminal justice system, victimology, crisis intervention, cultural/ethnic diversity, and applicable state victims' rights/laws.
