Have you been waiting for your opportunity to join the leadership team of one of Indianapolis' premier professional music ensembles? Marking its 35th season, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra (ICO) advances and promotes music composed for the small orchestra through professional concert performances and educational programs. The Executive Director (ED) position will be opening due to a mid-year 2020 retirement of a successful long-term leader.

• ICO provides seven subscription concerts per season of classical and contemporary works.
• Matthew Kraemer leads the Orchestra in his 5th season as Music Director.
• The Orchestra is comprised of 34 professional musicians.
• ICO proudly serves as Orchestra-in-Residence at the Schrott Center for the Arts at Butler University.
• ICO regularly accompanies local arts organizations, including the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir and the American Pianists Association.
• As a champion for new music, the ICO serves as Orchestra-in-Residence for the Indiana State University Contemporary Music Festival.
• ICO's radio broadcast airs each Monday evening on WFYI 90.1 FM.

ICO is governed by a 20-member Board of Directors. The ICOs annual budget is about $900K with an endowment of over $2 million. The ICO has 6 full-time and part-time employees reporting to the Executive Director. The Executive Director guides and supervises the ICO staff.

Responsibilities

In partnership with the Board of Directors, the ED provides vision, leadership, strategic direction, and management so that the ICO can achieve its goals for programmatic excellence, audience development and financial stability.

The ED is responsible for all aspects of the ICO's administration and operations, including budgeting and financial management, strategic planning, fundraising and patron development, marketing and audience development, artistic administration, concert production, collective bargaining negotiations, facilities, and community engagement.

The Executive Director works in close partnership with the Music Director to achieve the ICO's artistic goals. The ED is a visible spokesperson and advocate for the ICO in the Indianapolis region.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker who can inspire and align ICO stakeholders around an exciting vision for the ICO's growth and development. S/he will work with the Board of Directors and the Music Director on developing and executing new ideas for audience development and concert programming. S/he will have the demonstrated ability to develop and execute a strategic plan, and to achieve budgetary goals, donor cultivation, audience development, and program excellence.

The successful candidate will be willing to devote a substantial amount of time and energy to fundraising across both individual and institutional donors. Prefer established relationships with area foundations, arts patrons, and businesses.  S/he will have a track record of success with major gift fundraising and experience with fundraising campaigns.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience, with preference given to experience in orchestra or performing arts management and working with creative artists. S/he will combine a passion for music with a deep knowledge of administration and operations.

Bachelor's degree desired; substantial experience can be substituted. Competitive Salary and employee health insurance.
