Reports to: Board of Directors 
 
Serve as the leader of the Indiana Afterschool Network (IAN) to move forward the vision, mission and goals of the organization.  Work with the IAN Board of Directors, staff, and community partners to make Indiana a place where all children and youth have access to quality learning opportunities beyond the school day that prepare them for success in education, careers and life.
 
Responsibilities include: overall vision and leadership, resource development and strategic partnerships, board engagement, staff team leadership, fiscal oversight and operations, public policy, public engagement and awareness.  
 
Vision and Leadership 
• Work with IAN Board of Directors, staff and community to establish a compelling vision and direction 
• Provide visionary and strategic leadership that advances IAN and afterschool 
• Serve as an influential champion and advocate for positive youth development and afterschool 
• Build respect and profile for IAN; increase visibility, credibility and impact 
• Identify and pursue promising opportunities that advance IAN's vision and mission
• Pursue understanding of significant developments and trends at the national, state and local levels relevant to afterschool
• Promote public policy and advocacy to advance afterschool and IAN priorities 
 
Resource Development and Partner Engagement
• Cultivate and maintain public/private funder relationships and multiple revenue streams
• Establish positive relationships with funders and partners at the national, state and local levels that support IAN and the afterschool field 
• Mobilize diverse stakeholders to work together toward a shared vision and impact
 
Board Engagement
• Engage the board in establishing the vision, mission, direction and key decisions of the organization  Engage board members as spokespersons and champions for IAN and to cultivate influential relationships.
• Keep the board fully informed on major priorities and decisions; build and sustain positive collaborative relationships with board members.
• Work with the board and officers to ensure an effective governing body; keep board members actively involved; and cultivate and recruit new members.
 
Staff Team Leadership
• Create strong morale and spirit in staff team; share wins and successes; foster open dialogue; define success in terms of the whole team
• Promote shared leadership and decision-making
• Hire, retain, and support the best people and talented staff
 
Fiscal Oversight and Operations
• Work with the board and staff team to ensure that there are solid internal management and quality assurance processes in place related to human resources, accounting, legal compliance, etc.
• Work with the board and staff to establish budget, manage funds, track progress and maintain sound financial practices.
• Ensure that programs and projects are implemented and managed effectively to maximize impact; ensure that there are effective processes for tracking and communicating outcomes.
 
Skills and Qualifications
 
• Passion, commitment and understanding of afterschool, youth development and trends
• Proven track record in fundraising and leveraging public and private funds 
• Ability to establish and articulate a compelling vision and strategic plan
• Ability to mobilize staff and partners toward impact and outcomes
• Excellent relationship-building, communication, and verbal and written skills
• Strong values, high integrity, positive reputation
• Demonstrated experience managing a staff team and creating a positive work culture
• Experience engaging with a board of directors  
• Highly effective meeting facilitation skills
• Sophisticated project management and fiscal management skills 
• Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's Preferred in nonprofit management, youth development, education, social work, or related field

IAN began as an informal network of 11 afterschool providers in the late 1990's and has grown to engage more than 5,000 diverse partners today.  IAN became a formal entity in 2007 with support from the C.S. Mott Foundation, Lilly Endowment, Indiana Department of Education, and afterschool champions statewide.  Since that time, IAN has built a coordinated system of tools, resources and supports to advance the afterschool field and increase learning and enrichment opportunities for Indiana's K-12 youth.  IAN is a nationally recognized leader and an active participant in the Mott Foundation's consortium of statewide afterschool networks.  IAN serves as Indiana's affiliate for the National Afterschool Association, and is referenced in research publications, with invitations to present nationally.
