We need an experienced and motivated volunteer coordinator who can help a nonprofit providing free home repairs to low-income seniors, manage our dramatic growth. The right candidate will recruit, manage and reward close to a thousand volunteers each year in Indianapolis.

NeighborLink Indianapolis is a seven year old, half million dollar / year nonprofit, started by volunteers for the single purpose of keeping low-income seniors and homeowners with disabilities in their own homes safely and with a measure of dignity.  We heavily leverage local volunteers and community partnerships to provide free home repairs focussed on safety and habitability.  The demand for our services and the generosity of local supporters has brought us to the point of hiring several paid staff to ensure the sustainability and capacity of NeighborLink services.  Come help plan, lead, and manage this growth of a much needed service along with our team of good hearted people.  Check us out at NeighborLink. -

 Summary Responsibilities
•   Act as a liaison between the Volunteers, the Programs, and the Development Department
•   Perform outreach to recruit new Volunteers
•   Perform administrative tasks related to record keeping of volunteers
•   Regular group meetings with volunteers to provide a sense of community and to share ideas
•   Staffs a Volunteer Council to provide feedback to improving the volunteer experience
•   Provide information for website and newsletter, and social media sharing success stories about the volunteer experience
Specific duties required of Volunteer Coordinator:
•       Recruit (outreach and target marketing), interview, assess, support and train, evaluate, retain, recognize, and communicate with volunteers.  All this with a focus on personal connections and responsiveness to needs of volunteers for assignments in organizational and community-based projects.
•       Actively develop and maintain positive relationships with NLI staff, community contacts, and volunteers to create and offer opportunities to volunteer both within NLI and throughout the community.
•       Actively develop and maintain volunteer policies and procedures manual for internal use that provides information and guidelines for staff
•       Actively develop and maintain volunteer handbook for volunteer use that provide NLI information, scheduling procedures, jobs descriptions, and expectations.
•       Act as a liaison between the Volunteers and the NLI Programs Manager by coordinating their assignments.
•       Work to keep volunteers informed about NLI and their duties through regular orientation/training meetings, group sessions, manuals, emails and social media and phone calls.
•       Create a Volunteer Council and staffs their meetings and handles logistics for those meetings.
•       Work with the Program Manager and Development Director to create volunteer plan for the organization which will include the development of goals, measurable objectives, strategies to be utilized, timeline, identification of the financial and human resources needs, the activities to be undertaken, evaluation of outcome and outputs of the volunteer program.
•       Ensure proper background checks/screening are preformed according to State and Federal laws and NLI policies.
•       Work with the Client Relations Coordinator in creating and sustaining relations with NLI clients and participants that request volunteer services.
•       Maintain electronic database of volunteers, volunteer opportunities and service provided
•       Understand, follow and educate volunteers in all policies and guidelines and assure that policies are followed by volunteers.
•       Plan an annual volunteer recognition event including securing catering, invitation, favors, speaker/entertainment, doors prizes, awards and related details. Work with the Development Directors to secure donations to offset cost of event.
•       Empath for and understanding of seniors, disabled and persons coping with the effects of poverty.
•       Work with corporate volunteer groups, via phone or in person outreach, to engage their employees in meeting the mission of their organization's commitment to volunteerism.
•       Track and keep records of volunteers who sign up and perform assignment using (appropriate records management system) and evaluate volunteer assignments in terms of satisfaction.
•       Respond to all Volunteer Inquiries within twenty-four hours.
•       Consult with the Executive Director and Business Manager regarding any policy updates for sexual harassment or the policies that involve potential interaction between employees and volunteers.
•       Assist in field education for any training at NLI.
•       Coordinate volunteers for special activities and events.

• Bachelor's degree in public relation/marketing or social services-related field
• Demonstrated management skills and problem resolution.
• Demonstrated capability to effectively communication in English orally, in writing, and in reading.
• Ability to relate professionally with teachers, employers, faith leaders, and groups.
• Demonstrated capacity to empower volunteers to be effective in their roles.
• Ability to work well with a diverse groups of staff and volunteers
• Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job.
• Ability to effectively manage a wide array of task, projects, and responsibilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team
• Ability to work productively in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions
• Good records keeping skills and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to train others.
• Familiarity with social services resources a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional, Volunteer and Fundraising Software programs, and web software.
• Have a background in Volunteerism with a minimum of one-year experience employed in the field of nonprofit volunteering
• Must possess strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and have a demonstrated capability to conduct one's self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations.
• He/She will have strong initiative and ability to work independently and cooperatively. He/she will demonstrate a clear understanding of the relationship between volunteerism and fundraising goals.
• Experience working with fundraising and volunteer management software a plus.
• Ability to work cooperatively with different types of personalities
• Knowledge and understanding of the issues of aging and the concept of aging in place • He/she will be committed to the mission of NeighborLink Indianapolis.
• Local travel required, valid Indiana driver's license, auto insurance and use of personal vehicle.
• HR experience helpful.
• Excellent time-management skills.
• Great interpersonal skills.
• Some knowledge of Employer Branding and Recruitment Marketing helpful.
